UPI New Rule 2025: The National Payment Corporation (NPCI) has made a major change in the digital payment system. Under this change, facial and fingerprint can be used while using Unified Payments Interface (UPI) from 8 October 2025. That is, along with PIN, now you will use facial identification and fingerprint to transact money.

Your biometric data will be used by data associated with the Aadhaar system. UPI consumers can register their identity in their mobile phones, after which they will get permission to pay. This step is expected to make the digital payment process more secure and convenient.

How to work biometric option

In this payment system, whenever you choose a biometric option while making UPI payment, the phone’s camera and fingerprint scanner will be turned on. Scanned data will be matched with Aadhaar database and if all the information is correct, you will be paid in a few seconds. The biometric data of users will be safe in an encrypted form in its phone.

Users can turn off or turn this feature whenever they want. This system can be demonstrated by the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) at the ongoing Global Fintech Festival in Mumbai. However, no official statement has been issued on this yet. This feature will benefit people who often forget their UPI PIN.

RBI has given guidelines

In the guideline issued by RBI, it has been informed that such changes are being made to increase security and innovation in the banking system. RBI said that the current pin system has some weaknesses. Many UPI consumers face economic losses due to PIN theft or fishing. Keeping all these things in mind, biometric changes have been made. The face and fingerprint of every human being vary. In such a situation, it will be almost impossible to hack this system for fraudsters. Also, digital transactions with this facility will be even faster and safe than before.

From 1 July 2025, many important financial rules are going to change in India, which will affect everyone from the common man to business. These include aspects like UPI Payment, PAN card application, Tatkal train ticket booking, GST Return and HDFC Bank’s credit card. Government and institutions want to make the procedures more transparent and technically secure by implementing these rules.

New rule of UPI Chargeback

Till now, if the claim of chargeback on any transaction was rejected, the bank had to take the case again with permission from the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI). But according to the new rule announced on 20 June 2025, banks can now re -process the right chargeback claims themselves, for this they will not have to wait for the approval of NPCI. This will give consumers a faster and effective solution.

Aadhaar compulsory for making new PAN card

Now if any person wants to make a new PAN card, then he will have to have an Aadhaar card. Till now any valid identity card and birth certificate used to work, but CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes) has made Aadhaar verification mandatory since 1 July 2025. Its aim is to prevent fake identity and fraud.

OTP and Aadhaar required in TATKAL Ticket Booking

If you book Tatkal tickets in the train, now this process will be slightly different. From 1 July 2025, Aadhaar verification will be necessary to book Tatkal tickets on the IRCTC website and mobile app. At the same time, OTP will also have to be entered while booking Tatkal tickets from 15 July 2025, whether you book online or from a PRS counter.

Apart from this, authorized ticket agents will no longer be able to book Tatkal tickets for 30 minutes before opening the booking window. AC class tickets from 10:00 am to 10:30 am. This ban will be made from 11:00 am to 11:30 am for non-AC tickets.

Rules also strict in GST returns

The GST Network (GSTN) has announced that the GSTR-3B form will not be edited from July 2025. Apart from this, now no taxpayer will be able to file the GST return of the last date after three years. This rule will apply to many return forms such as GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-4, GSTR-5, GSTR-5A, GSTR-6, GSTR-7, GSTR-8 and GSTR-9. The purpose of this change is to promote the habit of filing returns on time.

Big news for HDFC Bank’s credit card users

From July 1, many new charges and reward policy are being made for HDFC Bank’s credit card holders. Now, if your expenses are more than 10,000 in the month, then 1 percent additional fee will be charged.

Apart from this, more than 50,000 utility bills, more than 10,000 online gaming, more than 15,000 fuel expenses and third party payments related to education or rent will also be charged 1 percent.

The maximum limit of all these charges has been fixed at 4,999 per month. Along with this, no reward points will be available on online skill-based gaming and the limit has been implemented on reward points received on insurance payment.

An important update has emerged for UPI users. The NPCI (National Payment Corporation of India) has decided to implement a new rule, under which since 30 June 2025, whenever users send money from UPI, the receiver’s real name registered in the bank will be seen on screen before making payment. This change is being brought to save users from wrong transfer and fraud.

Till now while making UPI payment, the same name was seen on the app that you had saved in the contact, or the receiver written in the UPI profile. But many times people use fake name or logo, causing the incidence of fraud. After the new rule, users scan QR, enter UPI ID or send money from mobile number, every time the real name will appear on the screen before confirmation.

This change will apply to two types of transactions, first P2P (Person to Person) i.e. when UPI users send money to a person and P2M (Person to Merchant) ie when users pay a shopkeeper or businessman

This will give special benefit to those users who often pay the QR code and pay. Tampering in QR code and linking to fake account has become a common scam. Now before making payment, you will be able to see if the front name is like the owner of the shop or not.

NPCI says that this new rule will take the safety of UPI transactions one level up. Also, this change will apply to any payment app, whether you are using GPAY, PhonePe, Paytm or BHIM app.

If you are paying in an unknown account and the name looks suspicious, then it will now be in your hand to stop that transaction. The new system will give the user a clear choice at the last step whether to send the payment.
