Millions of people across the country are dependent on UPI for digital payment, but on March 26, when it was suddenly down, the users faced trouble. Transactions on several major apps including Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm were stopped, causing people to share their displeasure and funny reactions on social media. NPCI did not make any official statement about this outage, but some banks cited the technical flaw as the reason for this.

In a few minutes of UPI down, there was a flood of memes on X (first Twitter). Some users wrote that they are trapped in cashless economy, while some asked to adopt old -fashioned cash transactions. A user shared a video, in which a person is washing utensils and wrote, “After the UPI server is down, I wash the utensils in the restaurant and my friend”. Similarly, users shared their expressions through fun gifs and Bollywood dialogues.
