Do not tell unknown person UPI PIN

If someone is asking for PIN number by calling himself a bank or government official, then it should be careful.

Take care while scanning QR

Every QR code would not have been engaged to take payment. Many times fraudster fake QR code and implicate people in their web. Therefore, take care while scanning the QR code in public places. If you are having a little doubt anywhere, then pay other ways instead of QR code there.

Use official apps

Always use official apps for transactions or other works. Never download any app from the link from an unknown person in some greed. The app downloaded from such links can steal your important information and password.

UPI is becoming the first choice of people

According to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), in 2024, there was a transaction of about Rs 20.64 lakh crore through UPI. In January 2025, there was a total transaction of more than 23.48 lakh crore with 16.99 billion transactions. However, as we know that every coin has two aspects. It also has some disadvantages with the specialty of UPI. The more it is being used, the more fraud cases are coming up.

Cyber ​​thugs are adopting new maneuvers

The UPI system has made the transaction easier through the QR code or UPI ID, but cyber thugs are emptying people’s bank accounts within minutes by adopting various maneuvers. Today we are going to tell you about a new scam-UPI auto-pay request.

Many times people do not remember the date of mobile recharge, insurance payment, credit card bill, electricity bill, loan payment. To solve this problem, NPCI launched the ‘UPI Auto-Pay’ feature in 2020. In this, along with the approval of the users, the money is automatically deducted from the account on the scheduled date. Due to this, payment is also made on time and there is no late payment.

How is Fraud being done?

• Now since the money in UPI auto-pay is automatically deducted, the cyber thugs are laying a trap of trapping people by sending ‘auto-pay request’. Cyber ​​criminals are getting the payment request accepted by luring users. Either SMS, email or fake links are being sent on social media, the money is deducted only by clicking on it.
• Scammers Bank or UPI Customer Care is also making people a victim of cheating by calling. They ask the user to enter the PIN to get auto-pay activated and every money is being cut from the account with the PIN.
• People are being implicated by pretending to be cheap subscription. Just by making payment, the settings of making money from the bank every month become automatically.
• Apart from this, auto-pay request is also being accepted by giving cashback, lure of auto pay. Therefore, after getting greed, avoid clicking in an unknown link. In case of fraud, click on the option of ‘Report Fraud’ or ‘Report Dispute’ in the UPI app itself and file your complaint. If you want, you can also submit a complaint in writing to the bank.

If an unusual transaction is happening, you can immediately inform the bank or UPI service provider, which can avoid being framed.

Increase security from two-factor authentication (2fa) or biometric confirmation

The UPI app is now being given 2‑factor Authentication i.e. 2FA or biometric option, such as OTP, besides fingerprints. This is important because even if PIN or OTP is stolen, no fraud will be able to do transactions. For this, go to the app security settings and turn on the option coming under the name 2FA or Biometric Confirmation.

The NPCI report states that the UPI fraud has increased by 70% last year and in most cases, OTP/Phishing’s hand was found.
