China US trade: China has temporarily suspended the ban imposed on the export of some dual-use items to America. These include gallium, germanium, antimony and super-hard materials. China’s Commerce Ministry gave this information on Sunday (November 9, 2025). The ministry said that this suspension will be effective from today till November 27, 2026. The ministry did not share any further details in this regard. In December 2024, China had announced a ban on the export of these materials.

Relief on other export controls also
China also announced the suspension of other export controls on Friday, including restrictions imposed on some rare earth elements and lithium battery materials. This step is being linked to the agreement between President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump. The two leaders had earlier agreed to postpone tariff cuts and other trade measures for a year. After six years, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping talked for about 1 hour 40 minutes.

Told Xi Jinping as a great leader
Trump praised Xi Jinping and said that he is a great leader of a great country and he feels that they will have a great relationship for a long time. At the same time, Xi Jinping said that he was very happy to meet Trump after many years. The two leaders last met in 2019, when Trump was in his first term. This is Trump’s first meeting with Xi Jinping in his second term.

China bans export restrictions
Earlier on Friday, China had announced that it was stopping the export restrictions imposed on October 9, in which the strictness on some rare metals and items related to lithium batteries was increased. This decision is part of the process of withdrawing the restrictions imposed earlier on a wide scale. Earlier, Xi Jinping and Donald Trump had agreed that for the next one year, both the countries would reduce tariffs and avoid new trade steps. Its purpose is to prevent trade tensions from escalating further while negotiations continue.

What is the importance of these metals?
Gallium and germanium are used in semiconductors, fiber optics, solar panels and defense systems. According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), China’s dominance in the production of these metals is so great that about 98 percent of the primary gallium used in the world comes from China. After China’s export ban, American companies had to find new suppliers in Europe and South-East Asia.

America will impose 55 percent tariff on China

According to a report by Reuters, a White House official said that after the agreement, the US would impose 55 percent tariffs on imported Chinese goods. This includes 10 percent baseline mutual tariff, 20 percent tariff for fentanile smuggling and 25 percent tariffs reflecting the already existing tariff. China will impose 10 percent tariff on US imports.

US President Trump said, “Full magnet and essential rare soil will be supplied from China. Similarly, we will provide all to China that has agreed, including Chinese students studying in our colleges and universities (which have always been good for me!).”

Officials in the US and China on Tuesday (June 10, 2025) said that they had agreed to a framework for the purpose of reviving their stalled trade agreement, including China’s commitment to remove their export restrictions on rare earth elements. However, the agreement did not indicate a long -term solution of broad trade tension between the two countries.

Wall street rally: The trade agreement between the US and China in Geneva brought the US stock market bright. S&P made the longest jump of two months after March with the announcement of tariff cuts. Earlier, President Trump had indicated business talks with China in early April, after which there was some relief in the global market.

On Monday, China and the United States have announced that they will cut the tariffs placed over each other for the next 90 days. While the US has reduced the rate of tariff on goods coming from China to 30 percent to 30 percent, Beijing said that the tariffs above the goods coming from Washington are going to reduce the tariff from 125 percent to 10 percent.
