US President Donald Trump has warned China that Beijing knows very well that if it attacks Taiwan, it will have serious consequences. Trump made this comment in an interview with CBS after meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He also said that if something happens you will know, but he (Xi) knows very well what the outcome will be.

Trump, however, did not clarify what America’s reaction would be if China took any action against Taiwan. He said, “I cannot reveal my strategy. I am not one of those people who tell everything in advance, but the person on the other side knows what will happen.” Trump claimed that during his presidency, China never took any aggressive steps against Taiwan because they knew what the consequences would be. He said, “Xi Jinping and his officials openly said that as long as Trump is president, we will not take any action against Taiwan.”

US Defense Minister met China’s Defense Minister

Meanwhile, US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth met Chinese Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun in Malaysia. This meeting took place during the conference of defense chiefs of South-East Asian countries and just a day before Trump and Xi Jinping had talks in South Korea.

Hegseth said on social media platform The Pentagon reiterated that the US does not seek confrontation, but will remain steadfast in protecting its interests and maintain an adequate military presence for regional stability.
