US Greenland Dispute: The international crisis arising over Greenland is not over yet. No concrete results could be achieved from the important US-led meeting at the White House with the top ministers of Greenland and Denmark. After the meeting, US President Donald Trump has once again given a controversial statement regarding Greenland.

In fact, on Wednesday the foreign ministers of Greenland and Denmark had reached the White House. Here he met US Vice President JD Vance and Foreign Minister Marco Rubio. In this high level meeting, the future of Greenland, regional security and Trump’s statements related to merging Greenland with America were discussed in detail. Denmark, under which Greenland is a self-governing territory, also lodged a strong objection to Trump’s statements.

Greenland made its stand clear

Speaking to the media after the meeting at the White House, Greenland’s Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt said that cooperation with America can be taken forward, but this does not mean that Greenland wants to become a part of America. He clearly said that Greenland has set its boundaries and it is in the interest of all parties to find the right and balanced path on this issue.

Agreement on forming high level working group

At the same time, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said that America, Denmark and Greenland have decided to form a high-level working group. This group will work on future strategy and shared solutions. Rasmussen said there still remain fundamental differences with the Trump administration over Greenland’s future. Greenland is a self-governing region of Denmark and efforts will be made to reach a consensus between the three parties on this point. He also said that the atmosphere of the meeting was positive and security related issues were discussed. According to Rasmussen, at present there is no immediate threat from China or Russia that Denmark cannot handle.

Trump said this in the statement

President Trump was involved in another program apart from the White House meeting. There he was questioned about the meeting held with officials of Greenland and Denmark. On this, Trump said that Greenland is very important in terms of national security, not only for America but also for the security of Denmark. Trump claimed that if Russia or China tried to occupy Greenland, Denmark would not be able to do much, whereas America could do a lot. He also said that he cannot rely on Denmark being able to protect itself.

‘We need Greenland’

Trump said that relations between America and Denmark are very good. He said, ‘Now let’s see what happens next, but we need this.’ Later he said, ‘I think some solution will emerge.’ Shortly before this, Trump had also taken a tough stance on Greenland on his social media platform Truth Social. He wrote that America needs Greenland because without it the American goal related to the Golden Dome cannot be achieved. Trump clearly said that he will not accept anything less than this.

Amidst the increasing tension between America and Denmark regarding Greenland, a big and shocking statement has come to light. The Danish Defense Ministry has clearly said that if America launches a military attack on Greenland, the Danish soldiers stationed there will fire first and ask questions later. According to the Danish government, this is not a new decision, but is part of the Army Rules (Rules of Engagement) in force since 1952, which is still in effect today.

When the Danish newspaper Berlingske questioned the Defense Ministry about the status of this rule, the Ministry clarified that this order is still in force. Under this rule, if any foreign army intrudes into Denmark or its subordinate territory, the soldiers have to immediately retaliate without waiting for orders from higher authorities.

Trump’s claim on Greenland

This statement has come at a time when US President Donald Trump has once again reiterated the desire to include Greenland in America. Trump has openly said that military force can also be an option to acquire Greenland. White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt said that Greenland is extremely important for America’s national security, especially in view of the increasing influence of China and Russia in the Arctic region.

Greenland National Security Priority – White House

According to the White House, President Trump and his team are considering several options regarding Greenland. Levitt said that the President always has the authority to use the military.

Statement of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that he will meet officials of Denmark and Greenland next week. However, he also said that Trump wants to buy Greenland and not attack it. The Danish government has welcomed this conversation and called it necessary.

Greenland not for sale – Denmark

Denmark has once again reiterated that Greenland is neither for sale nor can it be part of any deal. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has warned that if the US attacks Greenland it would be the beginning of the end of the NATO alliance.

warning from european countries

Many leaders of Europe have issued a joint statement saying that the territorial integrity of Greenland and Denmark should be respected. He has appealed to the Trump administration to avoid any kind of military action.

Why is America keeping an eye on Greenland?

Greenland is the largest island in the world and its strategic position in the Arctic region is considered very important. America believes that by controlling here the activities of China and Russia can be monitored. Military and technological advantage can be gained in the Arctic. Future energy and mineral wealth will be captured
