Trump Tariffs: America has proposed major trade action against 60 countries and economies including India. The US Trade Representative (USTR) says that these countries have not implemented effective restrictions on the import of goods allegedly made with forced labor.

The American agency has proposed imposing additional duties, calling it harmful for American trade and industry. This development has come to light at a time when continuous talks are going on between India and America to finalize the bilateral trade agreement.

Proposal for action against 60 economies

The Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) said in a statement issued on Tuesday that after an investigation under Section 301 of the US Trade Act of 1974, it has been concluded that the policies and practices of 60 economies are adversely affecting US trade. According to USTR, US businesses are being harmed by these countries’ failure to effectively prevent imports of products made with forced labor. Therefore, these cases have been considered actionable under US trade law.

Read this also: Claims to have defeated Eurofighter by 9-0 against Chinese J-10C fighter jet, Dragon is again spreading lies, read the full story.

India also included in the list

India is also included among the 54 countries and economies which USTR has placed in this category. Apart from India, countries like Australia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, China, Japan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Britain and United Arab Emirates are also included in this list. US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said that the failure of America’s major trading partners to stop the import of products made with forced labor is unacceptable. According to him, due to this, American workers have to face unequal competition in the global market.

proposal to impose additional fees

Based on the findings of the investigation, USTR has proposed to impose additional duties on products coming from the concerned countries. According to the agency, an additional 10 percent duty may be imposed on countries that have implemented a ban on products made from forced labor or have made a commitment to do so. There is a proposal to impose additional duty up to 12.5 percent on other countries. Apart from this, a separate arrangement has also been proposed for some imports related to textile and apparel sector.

The investigation started in March

USTR said that the investigation into this matter was started on March 12. Statements of approximately 60 witnesses were taken during the investigation and approximately 500 comments were received during the public consultation process. After considering all these aspects, the agency has prepared its conclusions.

USTR gave reasons for action

The US agency says that the lack of effective restrictions on the import of products made from forced labor weakens efforts to end labor exploitation at the global level. According to USTR, this gives an unfair advantage to low-cost producers, impairs market competition, and harms companies that do not use forced labor. This also increases the possibility of bypassing the restrictions already in place.

The proposal came amid India-US trade talks

This proposal has come at a time when India and America are working towards finalizing the first phase of the bilateral trade agreement. In the last few months, several rounds of talks have taken place between officials of New Delhi and Washington. Issues like market access, tariffs, digital trade and agriculture have been prominently included in these talks.

Tension increased after Trump’s tariff policy

This step of USTR has come amid trade tensions arising after the reciprocal tariff policy of US President Donald Trump. Earlier this year, India was also among the countries which the US had warned of imposing higher tariffs. However, later some proposed steps were temporarily stopped for talks with trading partner countries. India has consistently maintained that it is working towards a balanced and win-win trade agreement while protecting its sensitive domestic sectors.

America is still India’s biggest trading partner

Despite trade differences emerging from time to time, America remains India’s largest trading partner. Bilateral trade in goods between the two countries has crossed the level of more than 120 billion dollars in recent years. Both India and America have reiterated their commitment to further strengthen economic relations.

Comments sought till July 6

USTR has invited written comments on the proposed measures by July 6. After this, a public hearing will be held on July 7. The final decision will be taken after hearing and considering the suggestions received. The agency has clarified that charges will not be automatically imposed based on its findings. But if the US administration decides to move forward, additional tariffs, import quotas or other trade restrictions could be imposed under Section 301.

US Trade Court: US President Donald Trump’s trade policies suffered a major legal setback on Thursday amid the ongoing war with Iran. The US Trade Court has ruled against the latest 10% global tariff imposed by the President, declaring it illegal. The court made it clear that these blanket taxes could not be justified under the trade laws of the 1970s.

Last month, the court heard arguments on lawsuits filed by 24 states and several small businesses. Most of these states were led by Democrats. He had challenged these taxes in the court which came into effect from February 24. The states argued that this step of the President was an attempt to bypass the major decision of the Supreme Court, which had canceled Trump’s 2025 tariffs (imposed under IEEPA).

misuse of law
In the order issued in February, Trump had invoked Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974. The law allows tariffs to be imposed for up to 150 days to prevent a ‘payments deficit’ or a significant decline in the value of the dollar. However, the International Trade Court ruled by a 2-1 majority that the President had misused this decades-old law.

Also read- Tamil Nadu: All 108 MLAs of Vijay’s party TVK will resign, if DMK or AIADMK takes this step.

Refund order within 5 days
This decision of the court currently applies only to those parties who had challenged the administration in the court. The judges have directed the defendants to comply with this order within 5 days and refund their money to the importers involved in the case. However, tariffs imposed on sectors like steel, aluminum and automobile will continue as they do not fall under the purview of the Supreme Court.

Debate on economic crisis
The Trump administration had defended the move, citing an annual merchandise trade deficit of $1.2 trillion and a current account deficit equal to 4% of GDP. In contrast, according to a Reuters report, many economists and experts believe that the US is not facing a ‘payments crisis’, making it easier to legally challenge these taxes.

Read this also- Trump enraged by the firing on American ships in Hormuz, gave a big threat to Iran, said- If the deal is done quickly…

Now the US Justice Department can challenge this decision in the ‘US Court of Appeals’. It is noteworthy that the Appeal Court had also ruled against the Trump administration in the previous tariff dispute. The entire case centers on the temporary 10% tariffs that were imposed after the Supreme Court struck down last year’s sweeping tax. The current charges are set to expire on July 24.

Trump Tariffs: US President Donald Trump, who created an international stir by imposing high tariffs on countries around the world, got a big shock when the Supreme Court of the United States rejected his decision.

While this decision of the court brought great relief to the countries around the world, Trump gave a strong reaction to it. He said on Monday that due to this decision of the Supreme Court, Americans may have to suffer a loss of thousands of millions of dollars.

US President’s new warning

President Donald Trump said that this decision will benefit those countries and companies which were taking economic advantage of America for the last several decades. He defended his tariff decision by saying that he had the right to impose tariffs in other ways and was preparing to take steps in this direction.

Posting on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote that tariffs are extremely important for the US economy and the Supreme Court has weakened his efforts.

He said in his post that the court knew that they wanted to implement the tariff policy in the interest of the country at all costs, but despite this the court gave relief to those countries and companies who have been taking advantage of America for a long time. However, they also made it clear that they will now move towards implementing tariffs through other routes.

What is the whole matter?

Along with this, President Donald Trump also strongly criticized Jerome Powell, head of the US central bank Federal Reserve. He alleged that the renovation project of the Federal Reserve Complex in Washington DC has not been handled properly.

According to news agency Associated Press, this statement has come at a time when the Supreme Court has canceled many import duties imposed by the Trump administration. After this, the Trump administration is now considering options to regain tariff revenue of about $1.6 trillion.

US Fed Reserve Meeting: The US Federal Reserve has decided not to make any changes in interest rates after its two-day monetary policy meeting. Under the leadership of Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, the central bank has maintained the policy rates in the range of 3.50 percent to 3.75 percent. This decision has come at a time when the Fed had earlier cut the rate by 25 basis points and the market was expecting further relief. However, the Fed believes that more clarity is needed on data related to inflation, employment market and economic activities.

Why didn’t the Fed change rates?

US Fed Chief said that inflation has not been completely controlled and there is a lot of pressure on prices due to tariffs. Also, he said that maintaining stability at the policy level would be the right step.

It is worth noting that the main reason behind this decision of the US Fed is that inflation has not yet been completely controlled, hence hasty cuts were avoided. The US economy remains stronger than expected, especially the job market. Geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties at the global level are also keeping the Fed’s stance cautious.

Inflation and employment pressure

It is believed that this decision of the US Fed may keep the dollar strong, which may put pressure on emerging markets. Limited volatility may be seen in the stock markets, as investors will wait for further signals. Besides, it may also affect foreign investment and movement of rupee in countries like India.

Overall, the Fed has made it clear that it will keep further decisions dependent on economic data. That is, in the coming months, data related to inflation and employment will decide whether there will be a cut in interest rates or not.

US President Donald Trump has supported allowing foreign students to study in America. He said that it not only keeps the education system of the country strong, but is also very beneficial economically. While talking to Fox News host Laura Ingraham, Trump said that if the admission of foreign students is cut, many American universities will be closed.

Trump said, “If you stop half the students from all over the world, our colleges and universities will be destroyed. I don’t want to do that. It is good for students from outside countries to come, because we should keep pace with the whole world.”

Trump made a big claim

He claimed that half of America’s universities could be closed due to reducing the number of students from China and other countries. According to Trump, foreign students contribute trillions of dollars to the American economy and pay twice the fees as domestic students. He said, “I want to see our education system flourishing. It is not just a matter of inviting students, but it is a business model.”

Visa rules for international students strict

However, this statement has come at a time when the Trump administration has tightened the visa rules for international students. Thousands of visas have been canceled and some foreign students have been arrested or deported due to pro-Palestine activities.

When Ingraham suggested that reducing the number of foreign students would increase seats for American students, Trump disagreed. He said this would cause huge harm to small colleges and black historical universities.

Marco Rubio had taken a big decision

On the other hand, Foreign Minister Marco Rubio had earlier this year given instructions to temporarily stop student visa interviews. Now the administration is working on a new policy called Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education, under which it plans to limit the number of foreign students to 15% of the total undergraduate admissions and not allow more than 5% students from any one country. Many top institutions are opposing this proposal.

US President Donald Trump has once again given a big statement regarding his tariff policy. Trump has said that soon every citizen of America (except the rich) will be paid $2,000. This amount will be given from the tariff revenue collected by his administration.

“People who are against tariffs are fools!” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social. He claimed that during his tenure, America became the richest and most respected country in the world, where inflation was very low and the stock market had touched record highs.

Trump made a big claim

Trump also said that the US is earning trillions of dollars from tariffs, which will not only be used to reduce the $37 trillion national debt, but will also be distributed as dividends among ordinary citizens. According to him, every American (except high-income group) will soon get an amount of at least $2,000.

What did Trump write in his post?

He also mentioned the record-breaking achievements of the American economy in his post. Trump wrote, “401K (retirement savings) are at an all-time high. New plants and factories are being built across the country.” However, Trump has not given any clear information regarding the process or timeline for implementing this plan.

US Finance Secretary had said this

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant told CNBC in August that the administration is focused on reducing the $38.12 trillion national debt, for which tariff revenues are being used.

This statement comes at a time when the US Supreme Court is investigating whether Trump had misused his executive powers and imposed overly broad tariffs. Trump described this court investigation as completely baseless and said that tariffs are his most powerful economic weapon. Trump said, “We are earning trillions of dollars. This policy is making America strong, prosperous and self-reliant.”

In terms of economy, America is the largest country in the world, whose GDP is $30.507 trillion. Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve, America’s central banking institution, has once again announced a reduction in interest rates. After this cut, the key rate has now become 3.9 percent, which was earlier 4.1 percent. This decision has come at a time when the American economy is facing a government shutdown and a decline in the rate of employment growth. However, the Fed says that this step was necessary to encourage economic growth and job creation.

Announcing the rate cut, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said that the government shutdown has definitely affected economic activity, but this effect will not be permanent. He said that due to government work coming to a standstill, official figures of employment and inflation are not being released. Because of this, at present the Fed has to rely on economic signals from private institutions.

Decline in employment and rise in inflation became the reason for reducing rates.
The Fed had increased interest rates by 5.3 percent in the last two years to control inflation. Meanwhile, the pace of employment has slowed down, opportunities for new work are decreasing and consumer spending has decreased. The inflation rate is now at around 3 percent, which is more than the Fed’s target of 2 percent. Despite this, Powell said that now the focus will be on economic growth and increasing employment, because too tight monetary policy could have a negative impact on the market.

Impact on the American people and the world
This decision of the Federal Reserve is expected to provide relief to common American citizens. Loan installments will be cheaper, interest rates for houses and vehicles will decrease and it will be easier to take business loans. However, there will be a possibility of reduction in interest on savings accounts. This step is important at the global level also. Dollar may weaken due to low US rates and this is likely to increase investment in Asian countries including India.

Government shutdown becomes a big challenge
The federal shutdown currently going on in America is a result of the budget dispute between the government and Congress. Lakhs of government employees are without salary and the work of many departments has come to a standstill. Powell said that due to lack of government data, it has become difficult to decide the Fed’s policy. For this reason, the decision to reduce the rate in the next meeting to be held in December will depend on the circumstances.

President Donald Trump has reacted sharply to BRICS countries and said that America can now impose import duties (tariffs) on these countries. He said that the real objective of BRICS is to weaken the power of the dollar. In a meeting with Argentinian President Javier Mellí at the White House, Trump made it clear that America will not allow the power of the dollar to bow before any international alliance. He said, “Whoever wants to stay in the BRICS group can stay, but America will impose tariffs on them because this group is against the dollar.”

took a jibe at China

Trump accused China of recently deciding to buy soybeans from Argentina instead of the US, weakening relations between Washington and Buenos Aires. He said, “China always tries to create a rift, but it will be of no use.” On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote that China deliberately took this step to harm American soybean farmers. He said that America is now considering reducing dependence on China in cooking oil and other products. Let us tell you that Trump had recently imposed additional 100% duty on China, after which the relations between the two countries have become worse than before.

Increasing tension in US-China relations

In Trump’s second term, relations between America and China have become more tense than before. Differences between the two countries are continuously increasing due to trade war, technology competition and wars in Ukraine and the Middle East. China has recently banned the export of rare earth mineral technology, which has further soured US-China relations.

The White House on Saturday released a ‘factories’ and supported President Donald Trump’s new and controversial decision. Under this, a huge fee of US $ 1 lakh (about 88 lakh rupees) will be charged on the new H-1B visa petitions. The administration says that the move aims to save American employees from replacement from foreigners and secure American employment.

According to the factory, the share of employees working in the IT sector on H-1B visa was 32% in 2003, which has increased to more than 65% in recent years. At the same time, unemployment rate among American students studying computer science and computer engineering has reached 6.1% and 7.5%, which is double the graduates of other subjects. Between 2000 and 2019, the number of foreign Stem (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) was doubled, while the total stem employment increased by just 44.5%.

Trump Tariff: US President Donald Trump has imposed tariffs on the goods that are imported in America i.e. other countries from other countries. He says that this will promote manufacturing in America and create employment. While critics say that due to tariffs, the prices of things in America will increase, which will damage the economy.

What is tariff?

Tariff means tax imposed on foreign goods and services. Under this, when the company selling goods crosses the border, it pays this tax to the government of another country as a tariff. This makes the goods imported from abroad expensive, while the government makes profit from tax. America has imposed 50 percent tariff on India. That is, if someone is being sold in India for 100 rupees, then he will now sell in America for 150 rupees with tariffs. It is clear that additional 50 rupees to be charged as tariffs will be added to the treasury of the US government. Its entire pressure will be on common American citizens and companies there.

Crisis on foreign goods

When foreign products are cheap, more and more customers buy it. At the same time, when foreign goods become expensive due to tariffs, people give priority to the goods made in their country. It accelerates local manufacturing. In such a situation, many times local companies also decide to import less goods. Trump says that tariffs will increase the government’s earnings in the form of tax, consumers will be encouraged to buy more American -made goods and will boost investment in America.

Because of this, Trump imposed tariff

Trump wants to reduce America’s trade deficit – the difference between the goods purchased from other countries and the value of the goods sold to them. Trump says that other countries have exploited America, foreigners have looted it. Trump had said, “Our country has been looted by other countries. American taxpayers are being looted for more than 50 years, but now this is not going to happen. I am signing a historical executive order imposing reciperook tariffs on countries around the world. The reciperook, this means that we will do with them as they are doing with us. “

In the same sequence, announcing the tariff against China, Mexico and Canada, Trump said that these countries should make more efforts to prevent the reach of migrants and illegal drugs in the US. He has also threatened to impose tariffs on countries doing business with Russia, until there is no agreement towards ending the ongoing war in Ukraine.

However, since the announcement of tariffs, many times they have been changed or postponed them for some time. Trump’s tariff has also faced many legal challenges. In August, an American court while giving its verdict said that most of the tariffs imposed by Trump are illegal.

Trump’s tariff imposed on different countries

50 percent tariff on Indian goods – including 25 percent fine on trade with Russia.

50 percent tariff on Brazilian items

30 percent tariff on South African items

20 percent tariff on Vietnamese items

15 percent tariff on Japanese items

15 percent tariff on South Korean items

China and the US had threatened to put more than 100 % tariffs on each other’s goods. However, both have agreed to extend their trade ceasefire by 10 November.

Canada has a tariff up to 35 percent. Currently, talks are going on between the two. America is also continuing its conversation. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that his country will remove some ventilative fees for the free trade deal of most of the goods.

Mexico has been given a discount of 30 percent or more by the end of October to get time for the agreement.
