After the smooth opening of the Strait of Hormuz, which was closed for a long time due to the conflict between America and Iran, commercial ships are taking advantage of the facility of free navigation. An increase was also recorded in the movement of commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday (June 20, 2026). At the same time, American security forces are also continuing their activities to ensure freedom of navigation.

Centcom gave information about the situation of Hormuz Strait

American forces deployed to ensure rules are followed – Centcom

CentCom said, ‘The Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) has issued an advisory this week confirming the safe movement of all ships on the designated routes. The Center said that no arbitrary claims or problems are being faced on this route and the movement is safe and smooth.

CENTCOM said, ‘US forces are present in the area and are maintaining vigilance to ensure that all provisions of the agreement with Iran are followed and remain effectively implemented.’

What did JMIC say on the Strait of Hormuz?

JMIC issued a statement saying that the maritime security threat level in the Strait of Hormuz has been reduced to moderate after the US and Iran announced their intention to open this important waterway. However, seafarers and ship operators are advised to remain alert to the presence of mines and to note that naval forces will remain in the area while the cleanup operation continues.

America-Iran tension is at its peak, but what are the reasons due to which the conflict between the two countries continued to increase. First, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was signed in July 2015, under which Iran accepted tight limits on its nuclear program and in return received sanctions relief from the US-EU, which was also supported by the UN Security Council.

Then in May 2018, US President Trump, in his first term, started a maximum pressure campaign by unilaterally withdrawing the US from the JCPOA and reimposed tough sanctions, which had a serious impact on the Iranian economy.

In January 2020, America carried out a drone attack on Baghdad International Airport. Qasim Sulemani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force, was killed in this attack. This month, Iran retaliated by firing ballistic missiles at American military bases in Iraq.

Biden administration had tried for reconciliation
The Joe Biden administration tried to revive the nuclear deal between January 2021-January 2025, but talks dragged on and turned into a stalemate while Iran pursued its peaceful nuclear program. A direct military conflict between Israel and Iran occurred between 13–24 June 2025, known as the Iran–Israel War or “Twelve-Day War”, in which the US provided defense support to Israel.

America’s first attack inside Iran
The US, along with Israel, attacked Iranian nuclear facilities at Ford, Natanz and Isfahan, the first direct US attack inside Iran since 1979. Iran launched missile attacks on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar and a Qatar-brokered Israel-Iran ceasefire ended the 12-day war.
