The immigration attorney said, ‘If the husband and wife do not live in the same house every day, the immigration department will start investigating the marriage. Once the investigation starts, the authorities may refuse to grant the green card, so if you want a green card, you will have to stay together. According to Brad Bernstein, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) does not just look at addresses, but assesses the complete authenticity of the relationship.

A 60-year-old woman of Indian origin in America has been detained during the last phase of her green card interview. This action has been taken by America’s immigration officials. The Indian-origin woman who has been detained in the US is Babaljeet Babli Kaur, who has been living in the US since 1994 and was detained by federal agents during a biometric scan appointment for her pending green card application.

According to the Long Beach Watchdog report, Babaljeet Kaur’s daughter Joti said that her mother has got the green card petition approved on behalf of her other daughter, who is a US citizen and her husband also has a green card. Joti said, ‘Earlier this month, on December 1, 2025, her mother was at the front desk of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office, during which several federal agents arrived there. After this, Kaur was also called into the same room where the federal agents went and she was told that she was being detained.

Although Kaur was allowed by the American authorities to call and talk to her lawyer, she was still kept in custody. Apart from this, for several hours Kaur’s family was also not informed about where she was taken. They later learned that Kaur had been transferred overnight to Adelanto, which was previously a federal prison and is now being used as an ICE detention center, and Babaljeet Kaur is currently being detained here.
