The report said that the US wanted India to open its agricultural sector for imports. India refused to do so to protect the interests of farmers. The US has directly linked the decision to impose an extra 25 per cent tariff to the Russia-Ukraine war. The US wants India to put pressure on Russia and reduce oil imports, but India is continuing oil imports from Russia for its energy security and affordable supply. Due to this, commercial and diplomatic tension between America and India is increasing.

Although the strategic partnership remains between the two countries, the differences over trade and energy policy are seen deepening. The US wants India to open markets for American products.
