America’s National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard, a supporter of a relatively restrained foreign policy, submitted her resignation to President Donald Trump. She said her husband was recently diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, so she is stepping down to care for him.

With Gabbard’s resignation, her tenure overseeing 18 agencies of the US intelligence community will end. His tenure was tumultuous, and during this time he was largely sidelined by the White House from decision-making on important national security matters, such as military operations in Iran and Venezuela.

Gabbard was critical of American attacks abroad

President Trump had formed a team for his second term, which on one hand included supporters of an aggressive foreign policy and on the other hand included personalities like Tulsi Gabbard, a critic of American interference abroad, but in recent months, the influence of Gabbard and the faction representing her views continued to decline. His resignation is considered to be the biggest blow to this group so far.

Tulsi will remain in post till June 30

45-year-old Tulsi Gabbard said in her resignation letter that she will remain in her post as the country’s national intelligence chief till June 30 so that the process of leadership change can be completed smoothly. President Trump announced that Tulsi Gabbard’s deputy Aaron Lukas will be appointed Acting Director of National Intelligence.

Gabbard was elected Democrat MP from Hawaii

At present it is not clear who Trump will nominate to replace Gabbard. Tulsi Gabbard, 45, is a combat veteran and former Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii. He also contested the presidential election in the year 2020, but later separated from his party and supported President Trump in the 2024 elections.
