Efforts to stop the ongoing horrific conflict in the Middle East have suffered a major setback. US President Donald Trump said on Sunday (May 10) that he has reviewed Iran’s response to Washington’s peace proposal to end the war. Trump made it clear that he did not like Iran’s reaction at all. He called it ‘completely unacceptable’ for America.

Trump’s tough stance

In a statement released on the social media platform ‘Truth Social’, Trump used very strong words. He said that the reply given by the representatives of Iran did not meet his expectations. Accusing Iran of misleading America for decades, Trump wrote, ‘For the last 47 years, Iran has only been playing the game of ‘delay’ with America and the whole world. They have made fun of our great country, but now they will not be able to laugh anymore.

Targeted at Obama

During this time, Trump also targeted former US President Barack Obama. He claimed that it was because of Obama’s soft policies that Tehran got the opportunity to re-emerge and become powerful.

Iran had placed this condition

Iran had put many big conditions in this proposal that reached America through Pakistani intermediaries. According to Iranian news agency ‘Tasnim’ and other media reports, Iran has demanded an end to the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, where conflict continues between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah. Apart from this, Tehran wants relief from sanctions. Iran wanted the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to lift sanctions on the sale of Iranian oil for at least 30 days.
