• Destruction: Its heat is so intense that the outer part of the target melts or bursts. The entire process is done in seconds. If one beam hits the target, the remaining beams are redirected to the same spot, thereby reducing dispersion.
• Benefit: Each shot costs only $2-10 (electricity costs), whereas an intercept with a missile like Iron Dome costs thousands of dollars. Due to this, collateral damage is also greatly reduced. Its range is up to about 10 kilometers.

This system uses technologies like adaptive optics and coherent beam combination, which works even in conditions like weather or dust. But its performance may reduce slightly in rain or dense clouds.

The idea of ​​Iron Beam came in 2014, when Israel unveiled it for the first time. After more than 10 years of research, it was declared operational in September 2025.
