According to a new survey by Reuters and Ipsos, Trump’s approval rating has dropped to 34 percent, which is the lowest level of his current tenure. Earlier in the survey conducted between April 15 and 20, it was at 36 percent. This survey ran for four days and most of its answers were taken before the firing incident that took place at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night (April 25, 2026).

When Trump took office in January 2025, his popularity was 47 percent, but since then it has declined continuously. Especially after America and Israel started war against Iran on February 28, his popularity has taken a big blow. After this war, the price of petrol in America has increased by more than 40 percent to about $ 4.18 per gallon. Its impact is clearly visible on the expenditure of common people.

Opinion regarding inflation and everyday expenses

In the survey, only 22 percent people said that they are satisfied with Trump’s way of handling inflation and everyday expenses, which was earlier 25 percent. Not only the common people but also the supporters of Trump’s own party Republicans are worried about the rising prices. Although 78 percent of Republicans still support him, 41 percent of them are not happy with his handling of inflation.

Leaning towards Democrats

The survey revealed that the voters who were independent voters now seem to be leaning towards the Democrats. In the survey, 34 percent of independent voters liked the Democrats, while 20 percent supported the Republicans. About a quarter of the people said that they have not yet decided whom they will vote for. Trump won the 2024 election on the promise of reducing inflation, but now his economy-related approval rating has come down to 27 percent, which is lower than his first term and the worst rating during Joe Biden’s time.

The survey also revealed that only 34 percent of Americans believe the ongoing tension with Iran is justified, which is less than before. During Trump’s first term, his popularity was usually around 40 percent, whereas the current figure is close to its lowest level ever. The survey was conducted online across the United States, polling 1,269 adults, including 1,014 registered voters. The probability of error in this is said to be around 3 percent.
