US President Donald Trump will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday (August 15, 2025), where the two countries will hold talks to restore peace in Ukraine. Trump said during a conversation with reporters at the White House on Thursday (August 14, 2025) that within the first 5 minutes of the meeting, it would be known how effective the conversation was.

According to CNN, Trump said, ‘We will find out what is the opinion of everyone and I will know in the first 5 minutes whether our meeting will be good or bad. If the meeting is bad then it will end very quickly and if good, peace will be restored soon.

Russia occupies Ukraine 20% so far

At the same time, before meeting Putin in Alaska, President Trump claimed, ‘He will not do that tricks on me. Vladimir Putin wants peace in Ukraine and Alaska will not mess up the summit. Trump claimed that if I had not been a President, in my opinion, Russia would occupy the entire Ukraine, but I am President and he would not play with me. At the same time, Russian External Affairs Minister Sergei Lavarov said that useful talks are expected to continue during the US-Russia summit to be held in Alaska on Friday.

Putin’s first western trip after the war began

From February 2024, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues and Putin will be the first visit to the West countries after the war begins. Just a day before the summit, Russia claimed that it had taken over two cities of Ukraine. At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodimir Jelski was not invited to the Alaska Summit.
