A senior official of the US State Department has clearly stated that Kashmir is a direct issue between India and Pakistan and the US is not interested in mediation. This statement is a big shock for Pakistan, as it has been dragging the Kashmir issue on the international stage for a long time.

Pakistan has always been an attempt to try to pressurize India from forums such as the US, United Nations (UN) or Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), but this stance of Trump administration is in favor of India, because India has always considered this issue a bilateral matter. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif arrived in Washington from New York on Thursday (25 September 2025) to meet US President Donald Trump. Where apart from PM Shahbaz, Army General Aseem Munir was also present.

America first policy of america
The American official clarified that Washington looks at India and Pakistan from different perspectives and the same policy is adopted. America considers India a major strategic partner, especially in an Indo-Pacific strategy and economic partnership. America’s attitude has often been related to terrorism and security towards Pakistan. Financial assistance and military cooperation have also been cut. In this context, considering Kashmir as a bilateral issue reflects the strength of America-India relations.

Claims on Trump administration and Kashmir dispute
During the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Trump claimed that he played a role in stopping the struggle between India and Pakistan. On May 7, India started Operation Sindoor, after which a ceasefire took place on 10 May. Trump claimed that the ceasefire was possible with his mediation. However, India dismissed Trump’s claims and said that all talks between India and Pakistan are held directly and no third party is needed.

India’s policy opposed third party intervention
India has been continuously saying that the issues related to Kashmir and terrorism can be resolved only by bilateral talks between India and Pakistan. According to India, the intervention of a third party will not solve the solution, but more complexity will increase. This is the reason that India has always rejected the mediation of any country including America.

Pakistan’s diplomatic challenge
The Kashmir issue for Pakistan has been the main part of its foreign policy, but his situation is getting weaker due to repeated reactions from America and other countries. Despite raising the issue of Kashmir on the international stage, he is not getting global support. On the contrary, India’s strong diplomacy and international partnerships are increasing pressure on Pakistan.

The US State Ministry has issued a directive regarding the visa process, according to which, non -resident visa (NIV) applicants including Indians will have to schedule their interview only in their citizenship or legal residence country. This instruction of the department will be applicable with immediate effect.

The purpose of this order of the US government is to discontinue the easy methods already implemented by which people used to apply to near the nearby countries to get a visa early. According to the statement issued by the US State Department on Saturday (September 06, 2025), these new visa rules will be implemented globally.

Appointment will have to be taken in a country with citizenship

The statement said, ‘With immediate effect, the State Department has changed the rules of non-migrant visa. Now the applicant will have to take an appointment in the same country for interview, where they are citizens or where they live. The move will have a direct impact on those Indians who have applied for interviews in Singapore, Thailand and Germany to avoid domestic application in recent years.

After this decision of the US government, Indians who have to go to America early will not be able to take B1 (commercial) or B2 (Tourism) appointment abroad. Just in some extraordinary circumstances, in which the US does not usually do a visa interview, they can apply in a fixed embassy or consulate, but only when they are not living in any other country.

Number of pending applications may increase

This list includes citizens or residents of many other countries like Afghanistan, Cuba, Chad, Russia and Iran. According to industry experts, the number of pending applications before this ban may increase further. Earlier this year, the visa waiting period ranged from 3.5 months to 5 months in Hyderabad and Mumbai and it reached 9 months in Chennai.

This means that now most of the applicants have to appear in the American Embassy or Consulate, where they were previously exempted from personal interviews. The affected visa categories include H, L, F, M, J, E and O, even this rule is applicable for individuals above 79 years and children under 14 years of age.
