America has dropped a tariff bomb on Brazil amid the ongoing war with Iran. President Donald Trump has ordered to impose 25 percent tariff on Brazil. The US has accused Brazil that President Lula da Silva and his government are not cooperating honestly. He said for Lula that he was doing politics instead of accepting the agreement.

America’s Secretary of State Marco Rubio has shared a post on X regarding the tariff. He wrote, ‘President Trump has instructed USTR (United States Trade Representative) to impose a tariff of 25 percent on most goods coming from Brazil. There should be no confusion about the reason behind this decision. President Lula and his government have not negotiated with the United States honestly and in good faith.

Brazil criticized America regarding tariffs

Brazil has criticized Trump and America on the tariff issue. President Lula has shared a post regarding this on X. He wrote, “It is not right to take unilateral steps against our country. In the last 15 years, America has achieved a surplus of $ 424.5 billion in goods and services from Brazil. In 2025, 76 percent of the imports coming from America will enter Brazil without any import duty and the average effective duty on American products is only 3.1 percent.’

Let us tell you that Trump had imposed tariffs on many countries of the world including India. Now he has dropped a tariff bomb on Brazil. The Brazilian government has said that we will adopt the path of ‘reciprocity law’ against arbitrarily imposed tariffs. Brazil will take this dispute to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

America’s President Donald Trump always wants to remain in the news with his statements. The latest example of this has come to light again. Trump believes that India’s tariffs on American goods are much higher than official figures. When Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick argued on this, Trump did not listen to him. Even Lutnik’s figures were rubbished. This conversation that took place inside the White House has been revealed in a recent book.

When Trump presented his views on Indian tariffs, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who was present there, told him the official figures. Donald Trump rejected the US government’s official data on Indian tariffs, saying that these figures are nonsense. To this, Howard Lutnick replied that these figures are actually official figures of the US government, but Trump being Trump, he rejected all this by calling it ‘bullshit’.

Revealed in the regime change book

This conversation that took place inside the White House has been revealed in the recently released book named ‘Regime Change’. This was when the specter of imposing reciprocal tariffs was on Trump’s mind. US President Trump had said this during the discussion on trade barriers in March last year.

Also read- ‘India will not send peacekeeping force to Ukraine’, to whom and when did Donald Trump say this, know the whole story

What did Trump say on Lutnik’s argument?

When Commerce Secretary Lutnick told Trump that these data related to tariffs were not released by anyone else but the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), Trump rejected Lutnick’s claim and said that Indian tariffs on American goods are actually much higher. He claimed that India is imposing 175 percent tariff on American goods.

Trump told his close aide – Google it

During this discussion, Trump had also asked one of his close associates to Google. This book by Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, which claims to reveal the secrets of the Trump administration, was released in June itself. This claim related to Trump’s Indian tariffs has come at a time when things are close to being finalized on the trade deal between India and America.

Russian Crude Oil: Due to the ongoing war between Iran and America, there is a shortage of crude oil and LPG in India. After which America gave India a 30-day ban exemption, which ended on April 11, 2026. After this, the big question now arises that from where will India buy it for its oil supply? However, now there are reports that India can buy Russian oil instead of Iranian oil.

India is not dependent on American sanctions
According to a Mint report, India will continue to purchase crude oil and LPG from Russia for its supplies. In this report, citing unnamed official sources, it has been said that India’s energy import strategy is an independent decision and it does not depend on US sanctions. However, America has not taken a decision to extend or renew the sanctions exemption. Indian refineries plan to continue the same procurement policy as before from non-restricted entities and companies.

Mint has quoted an official in its report as saying that giving relaxation in sanctions is America’s prerogative and it does not determine India’s import strategy.

Russia is ready to continue supplies
At the same time, there is no problem from Russia in continuing the supply of oil to India. According to Russian news agency Tass, Russian diplomat in India Denis Alipov had said that Russia is ready to supply as much oil as India wants. He had also said that no matter what changes take place in the world, we will continue to supply oil to India.

Restriction relaxation ended
America had given India a 30-day embargo exemption on buying Iranian oil, which has now ended. After this, the US Finance Department has shared a post on social media platform X (Twitter) and announced that it will take ‘economically stringent’ steps. The department has also announced that it is considering imposing additional secondary sanctions against any country that supports Iran’s activities. However, it did not mention anything about Russian oil and silently allowed this exemption to expire.

The decision of global tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump was canceled by the Supreme Court on Friday i.e. 20th February. This order of the Supreme Court is being seen as a big blow to the Trump administration. Trump’s first reaction upon receiving the news of the court’s tariff decision was extremely angry. He looked calm on the outside but was full of anger on the inside.

Advisor gave note in the meeting

Donald Trump came to know about the US Supreme Court’s decision against global tariffs when he was holding a closed-door meeting with governors at the White House. According to Wall Street reports, during the meeting the advisor gave a note to the US President. On seeing which he said, “So this is a defeat?” The advisor confirmed that the court has declared the tariffs illegal.

Called the court’s decision shameful

Trump told the governors present in the meeting that he appeared calm on the outside but was filled with anger inside. According to people, he called the court’s decision shameful. After some time, Trump also interrupted the question-answer session and left saying that he had to prepare the answer.

American court declared global tariff illegal

The US Supreme Court canceled US President Trump’s global tariffs, declaring them illegal. The court said in its decision, Trump misused the emergency law and imposed tariffs beyond his authority. In a 6-3 decision written by Chief Justice John Roberts, the court said the legal basis used by the Trump administration does not permit such sweeping tariffs.

Although it is not yet clear whether the tariff money taken will be returned or not, the court has not mentioned it in the order. This is the first time that the court has canceled any decision of Trump’s second term.

Trump defended the policy

Within hours of the court’s decision, Trump defended his policy in a press conference. Trump said he would sign an order imposing “10 percent global tariffs under Section 122” and that other tariffs “will remain in full force and effect.” When asked about future rates of tariffs, he said, ‘Probably even higher…it depends on what we want to keep them.’

Called the court order disappointing

Trump described the court order as ‘extremely disappointing’. He also alleged that “foreign interests” influenced the court. However, he praised Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Brett Kavanaugh who dissented.

What did you say on trade deal with India?

Regarding the trade deal with India, Trump said, ‘Nothing will change. They will pay tariffs and we will not pay tariffs.

The US Supreme Court has declared Trump’s tariffs illegal, after which President Donald Trump’s first reaction has come to light. Trump has condemned the Supreme Court’s decision and called it shameful. However, till now no formal comment has come from the White House on this decision.

NBC News quoted sources as saying that the US President was meeting with a group when the Supreme Court’s decision regarding tariffs came. Terming this decision as shameful, he told the people present there that he had an alternative plan.

What did the Supreme Court comment?

The court said in its decision that President Trump violated his jurisdiction while imposing tariffs on more than 100 countries. They imposed the tariffs under a law designed for use in national emergencies. According to the US Constitution, the right to impose taxes and tariffs rests not with the President but with the Congress (Parliament). However, Trump used tariffs as a major economic and foreign policy tool. He described these tariffs as important for American economic security. Apart from this, Trump had predicted that without tariffs the country would be ruined.

Court gave its decision on tariff by 6-3

This historic decision of the Supreme Court has come by 6-3. Trump is the first President who imposed tariffs on more than 100 countries citing an emergency law of the 1970s. Not only this, he also made trade deals with many countries by threatening tariffs. The word ‘tariff’ is not mentioned anywhere in this law. Writing the decision on behalf of the majority, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. said that this law does not give the President the authority to impose tariffs.

What will be Trump’s next step?

This matter first went to the lower courts, from where Trump got a setback. After that the Trump administration had approached the Supreme Court. Now here too Trump has had to face defeat. Now it remains to be seen what Trump’s next step will be to defend the tariffs.

India US Trade Deal: A report by State Bank of India (SBI) regarding the recent trade deal between India and America has claimed that New Delhi can get huge economic benefits from this. According to the report, India’s trade surplus with America may cross 90 billion dollars. This increase is believed to be possible mainly due to the possible surge in Indian exports.

According to news agency ANI, the SBI report states that after the recent huge reduction in tariffs, exports of India’s top 15 products to America can reach $ 97 billion annually. Total exports may also cross the $100 billion mark. Reduction in duty on Indian products will open new opportunities for Indian exporters in the American market, which is likely to increase exports significantly.

Trade surplus with US

According to the report, India’s trade surplus with America is already showing signs of increasing. It had reached $40 billion in the financial year 2025, while in the financial year 2026 it stood at $26 billion during the period from April to December. If exports increase as projected, the trade surplus on an annual basis could exceed $90 billion, which could amount to about 1.1 percent of India’s GDP.

At present, India sends about 20 percent of its total exports to America, while imports from there are only around 7 percent. America’s share in the services sector is also about 15 percent. It is clear from these figures that till now American goods and services have had relatively limited access to the Indian market, whereas Indian products have a strong position in the American market.

Big opportunity for Indian exporters

Regarding imports, the report also mentions that India has committed to buy goods worth $500 billion from America in the next five years. In such a situation, it is estimated that about 50 billion dollars can be exported from America to India annually, which does not include the service sector. If tariffs are further reduced or exempted, exports of agricultural and other products from the US could increase to $55 billion.

Overall, the SBI report indicates that this trade deal could prove to be important for India in terms of export expansion, increase in trade surplus and positive impact on GDP.

US Tariff on Indian Goods: Trade deal has been done between India and America. Under this, the earlier reciprocal tariff of 25 percent imposed on the import of Indian goods in America has now been reduced to 18 percent. This will be implemented in the next 4-5 days.

On this, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday that under the bilateral trade agreement, America has drastically reduced the tariff on Indian exports, after the signing of this joint statement between the two countries, it will be implemented ‘in the next 4-5 days’. He further said that India will cut back on American goods in mid-March.

Tariff will come directly from 50 to 18 percent

He further said, on the basis of that joint statement, the first phase of this partnership between us (America and India) will start. Immediately after the statement, through an executive order by US President Donald Trump, additional tariff on Indian exports to America will be reduced from 50 percent to 18 percent. America has currently imposed 50 percent tariff on India. Of these, 25 percent was imposed as reciprocal tariff and 25 percent as penalty for purchasing oil from Russia.

What did you say about the $500 billion investment in America?

Piyush Goyal also said that under the deal announced by Trump late on Monday night, India has not made any promise to invest in America. His clarification came after the statement of the White House spokesperson in which it was said that India will invest 500 billion dollars in America under the trade deal. His comment might have been due to some confusion because under the deal, India has agreed to buy only $500 billion worth of products from America. Goyal said that this purchase will happen in the next five years. While announcing the deal, Trump had said that India will buy energy, technology, agriculture, coal and many other products from America.

India US Trade Deal: Talks regarding trade deal were going on between India and America for a long time, but despite continuous talks, no concrete result was being achieved. During this period, America had imposed high tariffs of up to 50 percent on India, which had a direct impact on many export sectors of India. The situation had become so bad that the government had to compensate for the losses by giving bailout packages to the affected industries.

Meanwhile, late on Monday night, US President Donald Trump suddenly announced that a major reduction in the 50 percent tariff imposed on India is being made and now it will be reduced to only 18 percent. This announcement gave great relief to the Indian industry and exporters. After this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also confirmed this trade deal.

This agreement has come at a time when India has already signed a free trade agreement with Britain and the European Union (EU). In such a situation, it is natural to raise the question that how was the deal with America suddenly sealed, why did Trump agree and how much will India actually benefit from this?

What is the benefit of trade deal?

According to IIMC Professor Shivaji Sarkar, after this deal, the American tariff rate on India has definitely reduced from 50 percent to 18 percent, but this relief is not completely satisfactory. Actually, normal tariff rates in America are around 5 percent. In such a situation, India is still being taxed at much more than the normal rates.

He says that in the changed circumstances, India’s exports will become more expensive than before. This can have a direct impact on the demand for Indian products in the American market. Exporters will have to change their prices to stay competitive, which will not be easy. That means there has been relief, but the challenge still remains.

Another pressure on India

According to Shivaji Sarkar, along with the reduction in tariff, a new pressure has also been created on India. Under this agreement, India will have to import about 500 billion dollars from America. This import will not be in a year or in any fixed time frame, but in the form of total value, but still it is a big economic liability for India.

This import also includes Venezuelan crude oil, whose quality is not considered better than other sources. This is heavy crude oil, which is expensive to refine. Not all refineries in India are suitable for this, only one or two refineries can process it.

Additionally, Venezuelan oil is usually refined on the US East Coast and surrounding areas. In such a situation, the logistics cost of importing oil from America or South America also increases, which puts additional burden on India.

Will this deal be costly?

Domestic consumers are also an important aspect of this entire equation. When the cost of import and production increases, the government faces a big challenge as to how much relief it will be able to provide to domestic consumers.

Apart from this, India was earlier importing cheap crude oil from Russia, which definitely benefited some companies, but its benefits were limited to reach the common consumers. Trump also said on this issue that buying oil from Russia is indirect funding of Ukraine war and now after this trade deal, there is a possibility of the war ending.

Also read: If you still have Rs 2000 note, then definitely know that this big update has arrived.

NCP (SP) chief and former Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Wednesday (04 February) said that the new US tariff policy includes provisions allowing export of agricultural products to India, which is a matter of concern for Indian farmers. Talking to reporters in Baramati, Sharad Pawar said that a clear picture of the recent trade agreement between India and America will emerge in the next two days.

Rajya Sabha member Pawar said that we can say something only after the picture becomes clear. However, there is a provision in the India-US tariff agreement announced by the US that allows agricultural exports to India, which is a matter of concern for Indian farmers and the domestic agriculture sector.

Agricultural export can cause loss to local producers- Pawar

He said, “America is a powerful economy and large-scale agricultural exports from there can harm local producers in other countries. I hope that the Indian agricultural sector will be protected.” Meanwhile, Caroline Levitt, press secretary of the White House, the official residence and office of the US President, said in a conversation with reporters, “The President (Donald Trump) has signed another major trade agreement with India. He spoke directly to Prime Minister Modi.

Good relations between India and America- Caroline Levitt

White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt further said, “There are very good relations between the two countries. India is not only committed to stop buying oil from Russia but is also committed to stop buying oil from America. Possibly even from Venezuela, from which we know that America and the American people will now directly benefit.

He said that apart from this, Prime Minister Modi has committed to invest 500 billion dollars in America, which also includes transportation, energy and agricultural products. So this is another great trade deal thanks to President Donald Trump.

India-US Trade Deal: The trade deal between India and America was finally sealed, which was awaited for a long time. In this trade deal between the two countries, there is talk of including strategic purchase of energy including crude oil from Venezuela, but under this the interests of the farmers will be protected.

No compromise with the interests of farmers

Sources said that sensitive sectors like agriculture and dairy have been kept out of the trade deal. This is so that crores of farmers and livestock farmers can be saved from cheap imports.

Cheap imports from America would have hurt the livelihood of these farmers. In America, most of the farming is mechanized, whereas in India, small farmers or dairy systems are still non-mechanized. In such a situation, it is not possible for them to compete with America. Under the agreement with America, the tariff on import of Indian goods has been reduced from 25 percent to 18 percent, which will encourage Indian exporters.

Threat to farmers’ livelihood!

A large number of people in our country earn their living from farming. India’s agriculture sector provides employment to about 45 percent of the people. India’s dairy sector is also dependent on small and marginal farmers. They barely have 1-2 cows or buffaloes. Whereas America, New Zealand and Australia have big corporate firms. Apart from this, these developed countries give huge subsidies to their farmers.

If India had removed tariffs from these sectors under the trade deal, the Indian markets would have been filled with cheap foreign products. Due to this, the farmers of our country would suffer a loss of about Rs 1.03 crore annually. According to Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, in the recent India-US trade deal, sensitive agricultural products and dairy have been completely protected so that the interests of Indian farmers are not compromised.
