Buddha Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon of Vaishakh month, which is on Monday 12 May 2025 this year. On this day, along with bathing, charity, fasting and worship of Lord Vishnu, the worship of the Peepal tree is also important.

It is described in the Puranas that Srihari resides in the Peepal tree and the day of Vaishakh Purnima is also dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Therefore, the Peepal tree is worshiped on Vaishakh Purnima. Worshiping Peepal on this day gives the blessings of Lord Vishnu.

Buddha Jayanti is also celebrated on Vaishakh Purnima, which is an important day for Buddhist followers. It is said that under the Bodhi tree (Peepal), he had done penance from Lord Buddha for years and he received knowledge under this tree. Therefore, worship of Peepal is important on this special day.

Jyotishacharya Anish Vyas says that worshiping the Peepal tree on Vaishakh Purnima reduces the inauspiciousness of many planets including Saturn, Guru in the horoscope. Also, by planting a peepal tree on the courtyard of the temple or on an empty place on this day, the inauspicious effect of Rahu-Ketu also reduces.

On the Vaishakh Purnima, Lord Buddha had attained knowledge under the Buddha tree, so on this day there is a law to worship this tree in Buddha Gaya. It is recognized to remove all disorders from this.
