The journey of Vaishno Devi has been closed once again. If the weather is clear in the morning due to bad weather, then the journey will start. The journey has been closed from Katra at around 5:30 pm on Wednesday (17 September). This journey was started from Wednesday after 26 August.

In fact, more than 35 pilgrims lost their lives and more than 10 people were injured due to landslides on Mata Vaishno Devi temple route during extremely bad weather on 26 August in Jammu division. Due to this, Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra was postponed. After the landslide in Katra recently, the administration had issued an order to vacate the hotels and Dharamshalas.

The pilgrimage of Mata Vaishno Devi temple located on the Trikuta hills of Jammu is also postponed on Wednesday (September 3). Meanwhile, landslide occurred in the summer point on the track of going to the temple. However, no pilgrims were present at the time of the incident, so no life was damaged nor any injured.

In view of landslides and heavy rains on Mata Vaishno Devi temple route located in Reasi district, arrangements have also been vacated by precautionary officials.

Katra base camp deserted

The Katra base camp appears to be completely deserted in the absence of devotees due to the pilgrimage of Vaishno Devi temple being suspended.

The Meteorological Department said on Wednesday (3 September) that the base camp of Vaishno Devi temple recorded more than 200 mm of rain during the last 24 hours, which is the highest in Jammu region.

A big accident took place on 26 August

The pilgrimage of Vaishno Devi was stopped on 26 August. However, the temple is open and its priests are doing prayers and rituals daily. On August 26, there was a big landslide due to rain on the old route near Ardhkunwari. In this accident, 34 devotees were killed and 20 others were injured.

Some pilgrims, who have reached Katra due to the postponement of the pilgrimage, are offering prayers at ‘Darshani Deodhi’ (the main entrance of the temple). Pramod, a devotee from Nagpur in Maharashtra, said in a conversation with the news agency PTI, “I had booked aircraft, train and hotel tickets about three months ago to offer prayers in the temple. But the pilgrimage is postponed, so I am offering prayers here (Darshani Deodhi) before returning home.

When will the journey start?

Due to continuous rains, the water level in rivers and drains, Banganga river has increased. Banganga passes through Jammu. Officials said that the decision to resume the yatra would be taken when the situation will improve and the barrier for the devotees on the 12 -km long double route to this temple on the hill would be removed.

This is the longest time ever since the Kovid-19 sanctions when the journey has been suspended. In the year 2024, about 95 lakh devotees worshiped Mata Vaishno Devi. That is, on average 26,027 per day. Devotees donated Rs 172 crore in FY 2024-25 (till January).

Heavy rains continue in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, on Tuesday (August 26), a cloudburst in Doda caused havoc. Three people died and 15 houses were damaged in the accident. Rescue operations are being carried out in the area. This has been confirmed by DC Harvinder Singh of Doda. The affected area is not well by road and has to travel 40–50 minutes to reach there, which has increased the challenges of the rescue operation.

10th and 11th examination postponed- JKBOSE

All the examinations of class 10th and 11th to be held on August 27 have been postponed. Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) said that information about the new date will be given separately.

It has been raining for three days

The Doda commissioner said on X that the traffic on NH-244 (Doda-Kishtwar) on the jungle-wise drain has come to a complete standstill due to continuous rains, landslides and falling stones, as a part of the road has been washed away. There is an appeal to the people to avoid travel till reinstatement.

Meanwhile, CM Omar Abdullah held a review meeting. He said that the situation is serious, keeping an eye on themselves.

Umar Abdullah will visit Jammu

Omar Abdullah said, “The situation is very serious in many parts of Jammu. I will personally go from the next flight from Srinagar to Jammu to monitor the situation. Meanwhile, instructions have been issued to provide additional funds to the Deputy Commissioners (DCS) to meet emergency restoration work and other requirements.

At the same time, Union Minister Jitendra Singh and BJP MP from Udhampur Jitendra Singh said that he just spoke to DC Harvinder Singh of Doda. According to him, sudden floods have been reported in Charava area of ​​Khalasa. No casualties have been reported due to this sudden flood so far. The administration is keeping an eye on the situation and my office is being given regular updates.
