Varun Chakraborty will captain the Tamil Nadu team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. This T20 tournament would have started between India vs South Africa test series. Tamil Nadu has named Varun Chakraborty as captain and N Jagadeesan as vice-captain in the 16-member squad for the domestic T20 tournament Syed Mushtaq Ali.

This will be the first time that Varun Chakraborty will be captaining the Tamil Nadu team. Chakraborty is continuously performing well for the Indian team in T20 International cricket. After returning to Team India in 2024, Chakraborty has taken 43 wickets in 23 matches. His experience and excellent form in international cricket will help Tamil Nadu to perform better.

Tamil Nadu team has been placed in Elite Group D in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament. Delhi, Saurashtra, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Tripura are also included in this group. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 title was won by Mumbai, while the Tamil Nadu team finished fifth in Group B.

Varun Chakraborty is currently playing only T20 matches for the Indian team. BCCI has announced the Indian squad for the Test and ODI series against South Africa. Varun Chakraborty’s name is nowhere present in these.
