Udaipur Files Controversy Update: Amit Jani, the producer of the film ‘Udaipur Files’, based on the famous Kanhaiya Lal murder case of Rajasthan, was threatened with death through social media on Friday.

As soon as the information of this case is received, the film’s director Bharat S.K. Srinet and Director Amit Jani reached the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office of Mohali and lodged a complaint.

Meanwhile, a hearing was held on Thursday in the Delhi High Court regarding the release of the film. The court put an interim prohibition on the release of the film. The court said that the film will not be released until the central government takes a final decision in this matter.

The High Court gave the petitioner Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind for two days to register its complaint with the central government under Section 6 of the Cinematograph Act. The court also directed that if such a complaint is received, the central government will have to take a decision in a week.

‘Udaipur Files’ is based on the murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal Sahu in Udaipur on 28 June 2022. Kanhaiya Lal was alleged to have made a post on social media in support of former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, after which two attackers entered the shop and strangled him to death. The incident was recorded by the attackers and made viral on social media, which caused resentment across the country.

The film stars Vijay Raj, Rajneesh Duggal and Preity Jhangiani in important roles. The film was scheduled to release in theaters across the country on July 11. However, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind filed a petition claiming that the content of the film could incite communal tension. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had put several cuts before giving a certificate to the film.

In the petition filed in the High Court, the petitioner has demanded a ban on the release of Udaipur files film. On behalf of the Censor Board, the court was told that the producer was asked to remove some controversial dialogues and scenes from the film Udaipur files.
