Congress leader Rahul Gandhi told a Pune court hearing in the defamation case against him on Wednesday that he is apprehensive with the people of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and Nathuram Godse’s ideology and giving “preventive security” is the constitutional responsibility of the government. A new twist has come in this case. After Rahul’s statement, the Congress has now clarified. The Congress gave an explanation that this application has been filed by his lawyer, without the permission of Rahul Gandhi.

Safety threats and historical reference mention in the application
It was said in the application that the threat to Rahul Gandhi’s security has increased due to the recent political developments and the comments made earlier on Savarkar. Referring to the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, it was said that history should not be allowed to repeat itself. Also, the alleged threats received from BJP leaders Ravneet Singh Bittu and Tarwinder Singh Marwah were also mentioned.

Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer announced to withdraw dishes without filing instructions
Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer Advocate Milind D. Pawar issued a press release to admit that on 13 August 2025, he had prepared the merits and without consulting his client without his client. Rahul is facing Satyaki Savarkar’s defamation trial
Rahul Gandhi, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s grandson Satyaki Savarkar is facing a defamation case filed. His lawyer claimed this in an application before a special court of cases against MPs and MLAs in Pune. The case has to be started in this case. It belongs to the alleged comments made by Gandhi’s freedom fighter and Hindutva thinker VD Savarkar. The application filed before the Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Amol Shinde by Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer Milind Pawar said that complainant Satyaki Savarkar had admitted that he was also a direct descendant of Nathuram Godse and Gopal Godse through the maternal dynasty. Nathuram and Gopal Godse were the main accused in the murder of Mahatma Gandhi.

The application also mentioned allegations against Rahul Gandhi’s Election Commission
The application said that Gandhi is the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and he had recently organized a press conference in New Delhi and kept evidence of the alleged election fraud by the Election Commission in front of the country. It was said that he also protested in the Parliament complex and raised slogans like “Vote Chor Sarkar” and during the parliamentary debate on the subject of “Vote Chor Sarkar”, there was a fierce debate between the Prime Minister and the Leader of Opposition during the parliamentary debate, which is well known to the public. The application said, “In view of this, there is no doubt that the complainant, Vinayak Savarkar’s ideology and some followers of Savarkar who are currently in power, would have enmity or resentment towards Gandhi.”

The application said, “Given the history of violent and anti-constitutional tendencies associated with the complainant’s lineage and the current political atmosphere, there is a clear, proper and sufficient apprehension that Rahul Gandhi can be damaged or targeted in other ways ….” The application said that in the application, it was said that there was said in the application that the impersonal records of political violence related to extreme factions and the present-fledged enthusiasm of the complainant said in the application. Given, this apprehension is neither unclear nor baseless. It also mentioned that preventive security is not only prudent in such circumstances, but also the constitutional obligation of the government.

Rahul Gandhi has already got bail
The lawyer had said, “The apprehension cannot be denied that Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s unconstitutional ideology and ideas and some people having a dangerous mentality like Nathuram and Gopal Godse may pose a threat to Gandhi’s life.” The court has already granted bail to Gandhi in this case. Reacting to the petition, Satyaki Savarkar had said that it is “trivial” and has been filed with the intention of delaying the trial. He had told reporters, “The facts mentioned by Gandhi in the application have nothing to do with the current matter.”

He said that in view of recent political struggles and complainant Satyaki Savarkar’s family relationships, my life is in danger. Rahul Gandhi has appealed to the Special MP/MLA court to take cognizance of the courts he has expressed about his safety and fair action during the hearing of this defamation case.

Rahul Gandhi appealed for preventable protection

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said in the MP/MLA court of Pune that he is in danger of life as the complainant Satyaki Savarkar has described himself as a descendant of Nathuram Godse. The Congress MP says that the history of this lineage is associated with violent ideology, due to which they are afraid of loss or false implication. He has demanded the court to provide ‘Preventive Protection’ i.e. pre -protection, so that both their lives and fairness of the case are safe.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi mentioned his recent statements, due to which he received the displeasure and threats of BJP leaders. Rahul Gandhi referred to the slogan of vote thieves government, evidence of electoral disturbances and saying in Parliament that true Hindu notes are not violent.

The case is related to a London speech in March 2023, in which Rahul mentioned an incident about Savarkar. Satyaki Savarkar says that it is a lie and defamation. According to the complaint, Rahul Gandhi had told the people present there that Savarkar wrote in a book that he and his five-six friends were beating a Muslim person and Savarkar was happy on this.

In the court, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer Milling Pawar has said that the complainant Satyaki has a relationship with Savarkar and Godse’s family. He can misuse his influence. The next hearing on this matter will be held on 10 September.
