Murshidabad communal violence: On Friday (April 11, 2025) in Murshidabad, West Bengal, the protest against the WAQF Amendment Act turned into violence. A police officer told the news agency PTI that after the prayers of Jumme, some people gathered in Shamsherganj and started a protest against the Waqf law. He blocked the National Highway -12. Many trains canceled

After this demonstration, the Railways had to cancel many trains. Eastern Railway said on X, “Today (11 April 2025) Rail services were interrupted on the Azimganj – New Farakka route of Eastern Railway. At 2:46 pm, about 5000 people sat on the railway track near Dhulianganga station. Due to this, Kamakhya Puri Express and many other trains got stuck on the way. Barharwa -Azimganj Passenger Train is also stopped at Ballalpur station as the road is not cleared. BSF posted

According to news agency ANI, BSF DIG and PRO Neelotpal Kumar Pandey of South Bengal Frontier said that a large number of people gathered in Jangipur, Murshidabad today to protest against the Waqf Amendment Act. Suddenly the crowd became uncontrollable, which worsened the law and order situation. The BSF immediately took positive steps to bring the situation under control. Section 163 has been implemented for 48 hours from 6 pm on Tuesday (April 8). Internet services have been discontinued in Jangipur subdivision.

Minister Siddicullah Chaudhary bowed down

State Minister and Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind West Bengal President Siddicla Chaudhary condemned the police action and said that even during the rule of the Left parties, the minorities were not treated by the police.

BJP accused the state government

Why protest is happening?

Parliament passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill last week. President Draupadi Murmu gave his approval to the proposed law on April 5. The BJP -led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) supported the bill, while the ‘India’ alliance of opposition parties opposed it. Many Muslim organizations and opposition MPs have approached the Supreme Court against the law.

The ruling coalition has described it as a step of increasing transparency and empowerment for backward Muslims and women of the community. At the same time, the opposition has termed it as unconstitutional and said that the Waqf (Amendment) law violates the rights of Muslims.
