Amidst the increasing attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh, another heart-wrenching case has come to light. In a village about 150 kilometers away from the capital Dhaka, Hindu businessman Khokan Chandra Das was attacked with sharp weapons and an attempt was made to burn him alive. Khokan Das, who was seriously burnt in this attack, is battling for life and death in the hospital.

We had no dispute with anyone – Khokan Das’s wife
His wife Seema Das said that she still does not understand why her husband was targeted so brutally. Seema said, ‘We had no quarrel with anyone on any issue. I don’t understand why my husband was suddenly targeted.

Attacked because of being a Hindu?
Khokan Das’s name has now joined the growing list of Hindus who have been attacked allegedly on religious grounds in Bangladesh. Seema Das said, ‘We are Hindus. We just want to live peacefully. The attackers were Muslims and the police is trying to catch the attackers. I appeal to the government for help. According to Seema Das, her husband admitted in the hospital had recognized the two attackers. For this reason the attackers poured petrol on his head and face and set him on fire.

What does Khokan Das do?
Khokan Das used to do business of medicine and mobile banking in his village. Used to drive. He was attacked while returning home after closing his shop on Wednesday. After the fire, he somehow jumped into the nearby pond, which extinguished the fire and saved his life. After this the attackers fled from the spot. Local people first took him to a nearby hospital, but when his condition became serious, the doctors referred him to a big hospital in Dhaka.

A mountain of sorrow fell on the family
Seema and Khokan Das have three children. One of the children told the mother that their father had lost a lot of blood and at least six units of blood were needed to stabilize his condition. While speaking at Dhaka Medical College, Seema Das was holding her youngest son close to her chest.

Increasing violence against minorities, India expressed concern
The interim government led by Mohammad Yunus is being accused of increasing violence against minorities including Hindus in Bangladesh. Many countries and human rights organizations including India have expressed concern over this. Last week, India had expressed deep concern over the ‘continued violence’ against minorities in Bangladesh and said it was closely monitoring the situation. The Bangladesh government says that it is committed to the protection of minorities.

At the beginning of the new year, Pakistan has once again shown aggressive behavior. Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir, without naming India, has issued a stern warning saying that if Pakistan’s territorial integrity is directly or indirectly violated, a ‘concrete and decisive’ response will be given. This statement has come at a time when Pakistan itself is struggling with the serious problem of internal unrest and terrorism.

Statement given in GHQ
According to a statement issued by the Pak Army, General Asim Munir made this comment while talking to the participants of the 18th National Workshop on Balochistan organized at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. He said that Pakistan can go to any extent to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Talk of regional peace, but the tone is threatening
On the one hand, Asim Munir reiterated Pakistan’s commitment towards regional peace and stability, while on the other hand, in a warning manner, he said that if there is any direct or indirect violation of Pakistan’s territorial integrity, a firm and decisive response will be given.

India-backed groups blamed for Balochistan violence
The Pak Army Chief, without presenting any evidence, alleged that ‘India-backed groups’ are engaged in spreading violence and disrupting development work in Balochistan. He said that the security forces will continue to take strict action to free the province from terrorism and unrest.

India’s counterattack
Amidst this rhetoric of Pakistan, Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab in India Gaurav Yadav has made a big allegation exposing the reality of Pakistan. He said that Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI is sending arms and ammunition to Punjab through drones.

Conspiracy to disturb Punjab
In a press conference on Wednesday, DGP Yadav said that Pakistan is trying to show Punjab as a ‘highly disturbed’ state by promoting incidents like grenade attacks. He called it a part of the proxy war waged against India. DGP said that Pakistan’s aim is to spread unrest in Punjab, that is why weapons are being sent through drones. He said that the architects of this network are sitting in North America, Europe, South-East Asia and Gulf countries.

Punjab Police is foiling every conspiracy
Gaurav Yadav clearly said that Punjab Police is foiling every conspiracy being hatched by ISI from across the border. Regarding the grenade attacks targeting police stations in Punjab, the DGP said that Pakistan wants to disturb peace in the border state, but the security agencies are fully alert and every attempt is being foiled.

Bangladesh has become a fundamentalist country today. The entire country is suffering the punishment for one mistake of Mohammad Yunus. It is because of a decision taken by the head of the interim government that Hindus are being attacked continuously there today. However, along with the killing of Hindus, student leader Usman Hadi was also killed in Bangladesh.

As soon as Sheikh Hasina left the post, Mohammad Yunus took a decision in Bangladesh which threw the entire country into the fire of fundamentalism and that decision was to lift the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami. Jamaat-e-Islami is a fundamentalist organization, which openly advocates Khilafat. Its love for Pakistan has been reflected from time to time.

Jamaat-e-Islami gets free hand
This decision of Yunus gave a free hand to this fundamentalist organization, the result of which is visible today in the form of attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh. On August 8 last year, Yunus had lifted the ban on the organization named Jamaat-e-Islami. This fundamentalist organization hates Hindus. Sheikh Hasina government had banned Jamaat-e-Islami and its student group Islami Chhatra Shibir on August 1, 2024. The reason for this was the violence during the protests against student quota, in which more than 150 people lost their lives. Sheikh Hasina had banned it under the anti-terrorism law.

Jamaat had created massacre in 1971 war
Actually, Jamaat-e-Islami was started in 1941. This organization is completely pro-Pakistan and works on the instructions of ISI. The whole world has seen a glimpse of this in the 1971 war. When Jamaat-e-Islami supported the Pakistani Army in the Bangladesh War of Independence and had a hand in the killing of lakhs of people. In 2013, the Bangladesh court had barred it from contesting elections because its rule was against the constitution.

Jamaat wants to run Bangladesh according to Sharia
On 5 August 2024, Sheikh Hasina resigned and came to India. After this, Yunus government said that there is no terrorist activity of Jamaat and the allegations of Sheikh Hasina government were wrong. Jamaat is a radical Islamic organization, which wants to make Bangladesh a country with Sharia law. Its student group Shibir is very violent, killing enemies and instigating religious conflicts. Apart from this, this organization hates Hindus and is associated with other fundamentalist groups. After the war crimes verdict in 2013, its people demolished more than 50 Hindu temples and set fire to more than 1,500 Hindu houses and shops.

The 2024 violence saw 2,010 attacks from August 4 to 20. 1,705 families were affected and 152 temples were damaged. The fanaticism of the Jamaat is clearly visible in the killings of Hindus.

Just before the possible return of exiled Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Tariq Rahman, the capital Dhaka once again came under the grip of violence. A 21-year-old youth died on the spot in a crude bomb blast in Moghabazar area on Christmas evening. The incident has raised serious questions regarding the security arrangements and political environment of the capital.

Crude bomb thrown from flyover
According to the police, at around 7:10 pm on Wednesday evening, unidentified miscreants hurled a powerful crude bomb on the road below Mogabazar flyover. The bomb hit the head of a young man walking on the road, due to which he died on the spot. After the blast, panic spread in the entire area.

identification of the deceased
The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Saiful Siam. He used to work in an automobile accessories shop in Moghabazar area. Police said that Siam had gone out to buy breakfast from a nearby shop when the attack took place. Tea shop owner Farooq, who was present at the spot, said, ‘Suddenly there was a huge explosion. I saw that Siam had fallen on the ground. Blood was flowing from his head and the circumstances were very frightening.

Explosion in sensitive area
The blast took place in New Eskaton area of Hatirjheel police station area, where the Assembly of God (AG) Church and Bangladesh Mukti Yoddha Sansad Central Command office is located. The explosion in this sensitive area has further increased the concern of security agencies.

Security concerns increased before Tariq Rehman’s return
This incident has happened at a time when political activity is intense regarding the return of BNP leader Tariq Rehman to Dhaka. He is the son of former President Ziaur Rehman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and has been in exile for the last 15 years. Before the upcoming elections, security arrangements had already been tightened in the capital regarding his return.

Police investigation continues, area sealed
Ramna Division Deputy Police Commissioner Masood Alam said that it was a cocktail bomb. He said that senior police officers are present at the spot and investigation is going on to identify the attackers. After the blast, the entire area has been sealed and additional forces have been deployed to maintain law and order.

The situation in Bangladesh has deteriorated rapidly after the murder of youth leader Sharif Usman Hadi and mob lynching of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das. These incidents not only sparked widespread protests within the country, but also plunged India-Bangladesh relations into another diplomatic crisis. The effect of this tense situation is visible from Dhaka to Delhi. Visa services are suspended, questions are being raised on the security of embassies and concern has also increased at the international level. Big things related to recent unrest in Bangladesh:

Situation worsened after the assassination of Sharif Usman Hadi
Protests started across the country after the shooting death of youth leader Sharif Usman Hadi in Dhaka. Hadi was one of the leading figures in last year’s ‘July uprising’ and his death further increased political tensions. After Hadi’s assassination, anti-India slogans and demonstrations intensified, due to which the Bangladesh government suspended visa services in India.

Outrage over mob lynching of Dipu Chandra Das
The lynching of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh on alleged blasphemy charges sparked outrage among the minority community. This was described as an example of religious fanaticism and administrative inaction.

Demonstration of Hindu organizations in Dhaka
Hindu religious organizations and minority rights groups demonstrated outside the National Press Club in Dhaka. The protesters said that Dipu Das was killed on false charges. India summoned Bangladesh’s ambassador and expressed strong objection to the security of minorities, threats to embassies and ‘misleading narrative’.

America talked to Yunus
US Special Envoy Sergio Gore discussed the recent events over the phone with Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus. During this, Yunus reiterated his commitment to hold general elections on 12 February.

Yunus’s claim regarding elections
Yunus said the interim government was committed to fair and peaceful elections, but he also accused supporters of the ousted Awami League of disrupting the elections. Sharif Hadi’s organization ‘Inquilab Manch’ gave an ultimatum of 24 hours and warned of mass movement if justice was not given. The organization demanded an investigation by international agencies.

Attacks on media institutions and damage to democratic image
The protesters attacked several media offices including Pratham Aalo and The Daily Star. Pratham Aalo had to stop print edition for the first time in 27 years. Yunus condemned the attacks. A few days after Hadi’s assassination, student movement leader Motaleb Sikdar was shot in Khulna, further increasing fears of targeted violence.

Visa services suspended due to security reasons
Earlier, New Delhi-based Bangladesh High Commission had announced to temporarily stop visa and consular services citing security concerns. This decision has been taken at a time when India had closed its visa application centers in Bangladesh. These centers were targeted by the mob in the violence that broke out after the assassination of Osman Hadi.

Sheikh Hasina’s allegations against the interim government of Bangladesh
The interim government of Bangladesh has indicated that it may review the presence of its diplomatic missions in India if the situation worsens. At the same time, India has made it clear that it will remain alert regarding the safety of minorities and regional stability. Meanwhile, ousted PM Sheikh Hasina has accused the Yunus government of promoting extremists and spoiling relations with India.

Dipu Chandra Das, a 27-year-old Hindu youth working in a garment factory in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district, was beaten to death by a mob on Thursday (December 16) over alleged blasphemy charges. If the factory management had informed the police in time, Deepu’s life could have been saved. But instead factory supervisors forced him to resign, threw him out of the workplace and handed him over to a radical Islamic mob, who brutally murdered him, hanged his body and then set it on fire.

Alleged blasphemy allegations, no concrete evidence
According to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police officials, there is no concrete confirmation yet of the blasphemy allegations leveled against Dipu Chandra Das. Officials said that it was not clear what Deepu said or did that led to this controversy.

Suspicious role of factory officials in murder
Investigation has revealed that the floor in-charge and quality in-charge of the factory handed over Dipu to the mob instead of handing him over to the police. After reviewing CCTV footage and videos, 12 people have been arrested so far, including factory officials and employees.

Not sudden, signs of a planned murder
Investigators say that this murder was not the result of any sudden violence, but there are clear signs of pre-planning. Forced resignation, delay in informing the police and ultimately handing over Deepu to the mob – all these steps point to a well-planned chain.

Taslima Nasreen raised questions
Exiled Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen raised questions about this murder on social media platform He asked who would bring the culprits of this heinous murder to justice.

A mountain of sorrow fell on the family
Dipu Chandra Das was married three years ago. His family consists of his wife and one and a half year old innocent child, who is now left without a father. RAB-14 Commander Naeemul Hasan told in the press conference that the violence started inside the factory at around 4 o’clock. He said, ‘The floor in-charge of the factory forced Dipu to resign and handed him over to the angry mob. We have arrested two factory officials because they did not ensure the safety of Deepu.

Crowd increased at the time of shift change
According to the report of Daily Star, a large number of workers gathered outside the factory at the time of shift change. Local people also reached there after the news spread. At around 8:45 pm, the mob broke the factory gate and dragged Deepu out of the security room. After being thrown out of the factory, local people also took part in the attack. Dipu was murdered on the spot, his body was hanged on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway and then set on fire.

Late information given to police
Police officials said that the situation kept worsening for several hours, but the factory management did not inform on time. Industrial Police SP MD Farhad Hussain Khan said, ‘If the call had come on time, Deepu’s life could have been saved.’

Traffic jam becomes a big hindrance

The SP said that at the time of the incident, there was a traffic jam of about 10 kilometers long, due to which there was a huge delay in the police reaching the spot. By the time the police arrived, the crowd had taken the body towards the highway. The factory management has denied negligence. Senior manager Saqib Mahmood claimed that there was no evidence for the allegations and a ‘fake resignation’ was obtained to defuse the situation. However, investigating agencies say that Deepu was deliberately handed over to the mob.

Due to the kind of situation in Bangladesh, resentment is being seen among the people in India also. There has been an increase in violence in Bangladesh since the announcement of the election date. Especially in Bangladesh, the brutality with which a minority Hindu youth was killed and then his body was set on fire is being widely criticized.

Meanwhile, former diplomat Mahesh Kumar Sachdev has had a special conversation with IANS regarding the situation in Bangladesh. Regarding the tension between India and Bangladesh, former diplomat Mahesh Kumar Sachdev said, ‘There may be tension for some time before the elections to be held on February 12, but in the long run, the logic of good neighborhood and solid economic coordination will maintain the relations between the two countries.’

He said, ‘The relationship between Bangladesh and India is historical. Both are part of the South Asian region, and there is a deep friendship between the people of the two countries, but there are still some challenges. That’s the way I look at it, and according to me, these challenges are for some time, and they are due to political reasons. Hopefully these will be resolved soon.

Regarding the impact of this tension between the two countries, Mahesh Kumar Sachdev said, ‘I do not think that there will be any big problem in the long run, but in the short term it is clear that there is tension. This cannot be denied. Sheikh Hasina earlier supported India and has been the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for a long time. This has happened regarding his deportation, because he is in India and his opponents are currently in power, or close to power because elections are to be held in Bangladesh on 12th February, hence, due to political reasons, there is a wave of anti-India, which is quite condemnable. Such people are behaving irresponsibly. They are making the situation more difficult in their own country. Be it the society or their opposition to the policy of secularism.

Kumar Sachdev said, ‘They want to show that Bangladesh is the opposite of India. This is a very convenient way, because he has very few things in the name of achievements. They have negative achievements and want to blame a big neighbor like India for turning the tide of public discontent. This is a short term method. Bangladesh cannot live without India because it has a lot of dependence on India.

Regarding the concern about the threat related to Bangladesh, he said, ‘Due to the conditions being created for Islamic extremists in Bangladesh, India may have to face a problem in its neighboring and neighboring states as well. These problems are not new. India has faced terrorism from outside India many times in the last 40 years. Bangladesh has been faced with this before and again the situation gets complicated in this way, and Bangladesh becomes a place of refuge, which wants to hit India in a thousand pieces. India needs to be careful about this.

Even though the situation seems calm at the moment after the recent violence and protests in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka, the tension in the political circles has not reduced. The country’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has held the interim government and its chief Mohammad Yunus directly responsible for the current situation. In an interview, he claimed that the same situation on the charges of anarchy on which his government was removed has become more serious under the current regime.

Yunus held responsible for violence and chaos
Sheikh Hasina said that the violence that spread after the assassination of Sharif Usman Hadi has badly affected the law and order of the country. According to him, the impact of this instability is not limited to Bangladesh only, but has also had a negative impact on relations with neighboring countries. He alleged that the interim government led by Yunus has completely failed to handle the situation.

Concern over India-Bangladesh relations
Sheikh Hasina raised serious questions on the current government regarding India-Bangladesh relations. In an e-mail interview with ANI, he said that the interim administration is continuously making harsh and hostile statements against India. They allege that the Yunus government has not been able to ensure the security of religious minorities and fundamentalist forces are being allowed to interfere in important matters like foreign policy. In this background, he also mentioned the recent murder of a Hindu youth, which has further increased the tension between the two countries.

Called India a reliable friend
Sheikh Hasina clarified that India has been Bangladesh’s most stable and reliable partner for decades. According to him, the relations between the two countries are stronger than any temporary political arrangement. He expressed hope that when the rule of law is again established in Bangladesh, both the countries will return to the old path of trust and cooperation, which was strengthened over the years by the Awami League government.

Called the decision against him a political conspiracy
Reacting to the recent verdict given against her, Sheikh Hasina said that it has nothing to do with justice. According to him, this is an attempt to eliminate him and his party politically. He alleged that he was neither given a chance to present his case nor was he allowed to choose a lawyer of his choice. He said that the tribunal is being used to target the Awami League.

Sharp warning regarding elections
Sheikh Hasina took a very strict stance on the upcoming elections. He said that any election conducted without Awami League cannot be free and fair. He claims that the current leadership is ruling without the mandate of the people and now there are preparations to ban the party to which the people have handed over power several times. He warned that if people do not get the opportunity to vote for the party of their choice, a large number of voters will abstain, raising questions about the legitimacy of any new government.

Response to extradition demands
Regarding the demands for extradition, Sheikh Hasina said that such voices are being raised from a desperate and directionless government. Expressing his gratitude to India, he said that he is grateful for the respect and security with which he has been given shelter here. He also said that the support of various political parties of India encourages him.

What did Sheikh Hasina say on returning to Bangladesh?
Clarifying her decision to leave the country, Sheikh Hasina said that she had taken this step to prevent further bloodshed. She bluntly said that she is not afraid of facing justice, but there is no hope of fairness in the current situation.

There was massive violence in Chittagong after the death of student leader Sharif Usman Hadi in Bangladesh. Many media institutions, cultural centers and political offices were attacked vigorously. In view of this, Indian visa operations have been suspended till further orders.

As violence spread in Bangladesh, protesters attacked the Indian Assistant High Commission in Chittagong late on Thursday night. Diplomatic tensions have increased further since former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted from power in last year’s rebellion. The security forces dispersed the huge crowd that was trying to storm the High Commission building.

Indian visa services suspended

According to the information given by the Central Government, due to a recent security incident at the Indian Visa Application Center (AHCI) located in Chittagong, Indian visa related operations at the Indian Visa Application Center (IVAC) Chittagong will remain suspended from 21/12/2025 till further orders. An announcement on reopening of the Visa Center will be made after reviewing the situation.

Uproar after the death of Osman Hadi

In recent days, protests have erupted near the Indian High Commission in Dhaka as well as subsidiary high commissions in Chittagong, Khulna and Rajshahi in Bangladesh, with demonstrators taking to the streets following the deadly attack on Usman Hadi last week. On Thursday, the India Visa Application Center (IVAC) in Dhaka, which was temporarily closed due to security concerns due to anti-India protests, resumed operations.

Anti-India protests continue

Located in Dhaka’s Jamuna Future Park (JFP), IVAC serves as the major integrated hub for all Indian visa services in the capital. Dozens of protesters attempted to march towards the office of the Assistant Indian High Commissioner in Rajshahi and demanded the deportation of all the killers, including Sheikh Hasina. Similar anti-India protests have been taking place in Dhaka and other places for some time.

Samia Suluhu Hassan has got a massive victory in the presidential elections of the African country Tanzania. However, amidst the election victory, severe violence was also witnessed. This presidential election quickly turned into a bloody game. According to foreign media reports, Tanzania’s main opposition party has claimed that massive demonstrations took place after this week’s disputed elections, in which hundreds of people were killed.

The United Nations says it has ‘credible reports’ that at least 10 people have been killed. Along with shutting down the internet, a large number of army has also been deployed here. Curfew has also been imposed in the area. The situation remains critical from Zanzibar to Dodoma. Amidst all this the United Nations has appealed not to use force.

What did the opposition party spokesperson say?

Amidst all this, John Kitoka, spokesperson of Tanzania’s opposition Chadema party, claimed, ‘At present the death toll in (Dar-es-Salaam) is about 350 and in Mwanza it is more than 200. If we add the figures from other places in the country, the total number of deaths is around 700.

Tanzania’s Foreign Minister Mahmud Thabit Kombo has rejected all these allegations. He directly said that the government does not have any data on these deaths nor has any excessive force been used. On Friday, Kombo denied reports that hundreds of opposition people had been killed, saying, ‘For now, no excessive force has been used. I have not seen these 700 people anywhere. So far there is no data on any protestor being killed.

Army along with police deployed to stop riots

After Wednesday’s elections, police as well as army were deployed to stop riots in big cities. Tanzania is generally considered a very peaceful country. However, after the elections, soldiers are seen patrolling the streets. There are also reports of sporadic firing.

In this general election, Samia Suluhu Hassan and her party Chama Cha Mapinduzi were accused of rigging and then the violence started from here. As soon as the election results came out, people started taking to the streets in many cities including Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Dodoma. Along with tearing of posters, there were attacks on police stations and clashes with the police were also seen. Within no time the atmosphere became violent.
