According to the new report of Global Passport Index, there are many countries in the world which have the strongest passports. Citizens of these countries can travel to hundreds of countries without visa or with visa-on-arrival, but in return they have to pay very high taxes in their country.

This report shows that in the countries where citizens get maximum visa-free travel around the world, income tax and other taxes are also very high. This simply means that good government facilities and traveling comfortably around the world also has a price which the citizens are paying in their own country in the form of taxes. The governments of these countries use taxes on health, education, social security and better public services.

Which countries have higher taxes?
It has been told in the report that the income tax rates in those European countries where passports are considered to be the strongest in the world are also very high. In some countries, people with high income have to pay a large part of their income as tax. That is, the passport which makes it easy to travel without visa to many countries of the world, the tax system of the same country can also be very strict.

Is India also included?
India’s passport is continuously getting stronger and many countries have provided visa-free or visa-on-arrival facilities for Indian citizens. However, India is not included in the list of countries where along with the strongest passport one has to pay the highest taxes.

It has been said in the report that in countries where the economy is strong and the governments provide facilities like better health, education, transport and social security to their citizens, taxes are also higher. Henley Passport Index has released the ranking of 2026 regarding passports around the world. This year, Singapore’s passport has been declared the most powerful passport in the world. This means that a person holding a Singapore passport can travel to 192 countries without a visa.

The growing power of Asia is clearly visible in this list. After Singapore, Japan and South Korea are in second place, which get visa free entry in 188 countries. Many European countries have fallen to the third and fourth positions, while the United Arab Emirates has jumped 57 places in the last two decades to reach the top 5. Although there are many countries at the same position.

America returns to top 10

If we talk about the position of the most powerful country in the world, after the decline last year, America has again returned to the top 10 and is at 10th place among 179 countries with visa free access. Apart from this, Australia, Canada and Malaysia have also been successful in making place in the top 10. On the contrary, Afghanistan is at the bottom in the list of weakest passports in the world. Visa-free travel is possible to only 24 countries with an Afghan passport.

There are countries like Syria (100th), Iraq (99th), Pakistan (98th), Yemen and Somalia. According to the report, today there is a gap of 168 countries between the strongest and weakest passports. In the year 2006 this gap was only 118 countries.

Pakistan lags behind even after improvement in ranking

Pakistan managed to enter the top 100 by ranking 98th. Last year it was at 103. Let us tell you that this is the first time in 10 years that Pakistan has come in the top 100. However, despite improvement in ranking, Pakistan remained a laggard. Last year, despite being ranked 103, Pakistanis could travel to only 33 countries visa free. This year, when the rank is 98, only 31 countries can be visited, that is, 2 more countries have been reduced.

What is the status of Indian passport?

Talking about India, India has reached 80th position in 2026, which is 5 places higher than last year. In 2025, India was at 85th position. Indian passport holders now get visa free or visa on arrival facility in 55 countries. From India’s point of view it is being considered very positive.
