Bangladesh election date: In Bangladesh, the pressure on Chief of the last government Mohammad Yunus is constantly increasing to hold elections in a democratic manner. In view of the attitude of Bangladesh Army Chief and political parties, Mohammad Yunus has announced that elections can be held at any time between December 2025 and June 2026 in the country. Mohammad Yunus press secretary Shafiqul Alam said that the interim government is not sitting silently, but is actively working on different fronts.

When will elections be held in Bangladesh?

Mohammad Yunus is on a visit to Japan these days. According to the report of Dhaka Tribune, he said, “People are repeatedly asking when elections will be held, because the leaders are eager to come to power. I have been promising them for some time. If the reforms are early, elections can be held in December 2025, otherwise elections will be held by June 2026. We have to complete this task by June 2026.”

The Chief of the Interim Government also made it clear that if the improvement in Bangladesh has slowed down, then there may be a delay in elections. He also said that the delay in elections cannot last indefinitely. BNP acting president Tariq Rahman said that excuses are being made to hold elections in Bangladesh.

Yunus government is under pressure to hold elections

Almost all political parties in Bangladesh are becoming one against the interim government chief Mohammad Yunus. Bangladesh National Party General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Wednesday (29 May 2025) that the government is paying attention to all other issues except the election 10 months after the coup.

He said that earlier elections have been conducted within three months of the caretaker government. Thousands of youths took out a rally against the interim government of the country led by Muhammad Yunus to demand elections in Bangladesh by December. While attending this rally through a virtual platform from London, Rahman further said, “National elections in Bangladesh should be held by December and preparations should begin immediately.” He alleged that the interim government is trying to end the democratic process in the name of so -called reforms.

Army Chief also warned about holding elections

Mohammad Yunus’s government is currently falling victim to all -round criticism in Bangladesh. Recently, Bangladesh Chief General Waqar-e-Zaman told Mohammad Yunus that no major decision will be taken until the elected government comes to Bangladesh. The Army Chief warned that after the fair elections in Bangladesh by December 2025, an elected government should come by 1 January 2026.

Younus government’s U-turn on warning of army chief

According to the report of Dhaka Tribune, General Waqar has bluntly said that no major decision will be taken until the elected government comes in the country (Bangladesh). Mohammad Yunus is believed to have agreed on the Rakhine Corridor, which is considered a threat to the sovereignty of Bangladesh. After General Waqar’s warning, the interim government of Bangladesh has taken a U-turn on the Rakhine Corridor.

Strict instructions of Army Chief

Referring to the Rakhine Corridor, General Waqar said, “The army of Bangladesh will never be involved in any activity that is dangerous for sovereignty nor will anyone be allowed to do so.” The Army Chief said that after a fair election in Bangladesh by December 2025, an elected government should come by 1 January 2016.

Younus government reminded

After the warning of Army Chief Waqar, Bangladesh’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Khalilur Rahman made it clear that the interim government has not discussed the Rakhine Corridor and it will not be done in future also.

According to the report of the Daily Star, Khalilur Rahman said, “The United Nations had only asked if the Bangladesh border could help in sending humanitarian aid, which will be transported to Rakhine. We said that we can consider it.” Mohammad Yunus is also a representative for many issues including Rahman Rohingya.

Army can create pressure on President

After this meeting, it is being said that everything is not going well between the Government of Bangladesh and the army chief there. According to the report, in this meeting, the Army Chief discussed security measures amid the growing extremism in the country. According to the report, the army can either pressurize the President to implement emergency in the country or that the Yunus can be counted against the government and occupy power itself.

Army angry with protesters

In the last few days, many political parties and student organizations in Bangladesh have also demonstrated against the army, due to which a group of army is angry. The army has planned to control this demonstration. Mohammad Yunus has been invited to participate in the Boao Forum for Asia Conference (BFA) from 25–28 March in Hanan province of China. His visit is taking place at a time when the politics of Bangladesh is going through a lot of upheaval.
