US President Donald Trump on Friday (July 18, 2025), while attacking the Wall Street Journal and its owners, filed a defamation suit of $ 10 billion (about Rs 83,000 crore). The lawsuit has been filed in the federal court in Florida, in which Trump has made two journalists from News Corp owner Rupert Murdoch, Dow Jones Company and Wall Street Journal.

Trump alleges that the Wall Street Journal deliberately published a false and objectionable report, claiming that in 2003 he sent a message to the notorious investor Jeffrey Epstein on his birthday. This message mentioned a pornographic picture and “their shared secrets”. Trump has described this report as baseless, false and character abusing.

Trump claims that this false news has caused him serious economic and social damage. He wrote in his response on Truth Social, “I am waiting for Rupert Murdoch to put it in the dock in the court. His garbage heap newspaper, Wall Street Journal, will now be accountable. This lawsuit is going to be a historic experience.”

Trump has long been accusing the mainstream media of biased reporting. Now he has dragged Murdoch directly into court. At the same time, there has been no official response to this case from Dow Jones, News Corp and Murdoch.

Trump had warned publicly earlier

Significantly, Dow Jones is the owner of the Wall Street Journal and is a subsidiary of the news corp. Trump had also publicly warned that if false reporting did not stop, he would take legal action against Murdoch.

Accused of tarnishing the image of pilot from media leaks
Priyanka Chaturvedi said that by leaking selected parts of the report, the image of the late pilot is being deliberately damaged, which is “condemnable”. He demanded from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting that a clear guideline should be made for media coverage of reports of agencies like AAIB.

Need to raise voice against ‘Narrator’
Chaturvedi wrote, “AI171 cannot be made mute spectators in the crashed and its report that is being made mute spectators. It is a matter of serious concern for public safety, pilot morale and India’s global aviation image.”

What was mentioned in AAIB report
Initial report of 15 pages released by Aaib on Saturday said that the fuel control switches of both engines of the aircraft went from ‘run’ to ‘cutoff’ in a few seconds of the flight. This rapidly lost height and collided with a building, killing 260 people, including 241 passengers.

Indications from cockpit recording, not technical fault
The reports did not identify the pilots, but in the cockpit voice recording, one pilot asks the other why he cut the fuel, while the other refuses it. The report also said that no technical fault was found in the aircraft, causing the pilot error to be considered a possible reason.

Pilots Association also expressed disagreement
Airline Pilots Association of India has objected to the AAIB report. He said that the investigation has been “immersed in privacy” and is biased against the pilot. The report has been prepared in a hurry and the conclusions are prejudiced.
