Rising Heart Attack Trends: Heart related diseases are increasing rapidly in India. High blood pressure, cholesterol and stressful lifestyle have made people’s heart health the biggest threat. Experts say that if people still do not pay attention to their diet and lifestyle, then the cases of heart attacks may increase further in the coming years. It is important to recognize body signals in time and get regular checkups done so that this silent danger can be avoided.

Why are heart attack cases increasing in India?

Heart disease has become the biggest cause of death in India. Between 2014 and 2019, there has been an increase of about 50 percent in heart attack cases in the country. Urbanization, changing lifestyle, poor diet, stress, smoking and diseases like diabetes are the main reasons for this. Experts believe that this problem is not limited to health only, but it is also affecting the country’s economy, stability of families and working life.

Why does heart attack happen?

Heart attack occurs when blood flow in the blood arteries leading to the heart stops due to a clot or blockage. Due to this, oxygen does not reach the heart muscles and within some time the cells start dying. If timely treatment is not received, it can prove fatal. According to T. Suman Kumar, cardiologist at Srimatha Heart Clinic, Vijayawada, “Most heart attacks, strokes and heart failure do not occur suddenly, but their risk factors are already present in our body, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity and smoking.”

Four big dangers hidden in the body

According to doctors, most people do not have their first heart attack suddenly, but there are some silent risk factors hidden behind it, such as:

high blood pressure – Prolonged increased blood pressure damages the walls of the arteries.

cholesterol – Increased LDL cholesterol in the blood forms fatty deposits in the arteries, which obstructs blood flow.

blood sugar or diabetes– Increased sugar weakens the blood cells and increases the risk of heart disease manifold.

smoking – Tobacco damages both the heart and arteries.

All these factors affect gradually, but symptoms appear when the danger has increased. Therefore regular checkup is necessary.

How to reduce the risk of heart attack?

The good thing is that most of these risks can be controlled. The risk of heart attack can be reduced significantly by eating right, regular exercise and medical checkup. For this, you need to make some improvements in your diet, such as including fruits, green vegetables, whole grains and healthy fats in it. Apart from this, do exercise, in which walk or yoga for at least 30 minutes daily. Quit smoking as far as possible. Stopping tobacco consumption immediately reduces the risk of heart disease. Most strokes and heart attacks occur because people do not monitor their health. If timely diagnosis is made, doctors can start treatment at an early stage. Especially people above 30 years of age or those with a family history of heart disease should get themselves checked regularly.

Heart disease in youth: Earlier heart disease was considered to be the disease of the elderly. But now it is also engulfing the youth. Especially people between the ages of 20 and 30 are falling prey to cardiovascular problems. Recent research has shown that problems like poor food, stress, modern lifestyle, high blood pressure and cholesterol are responsible for this.

Danger due to smoking and alcohol consumption

Apart from this, the habit of sitting, smoking, alcohol consumption and obesity are also increasing this danger. Health experts are worried due to increasing cases of heart disease in youth. Research by USV, a major drug company, revealed that unusual cholesterol level is common among young Indians. In this research, the high level of glycated hemoglobin associated with lifestyle and diabetes was described as the major risk.

Another research found that high blood pressure problem is increasing rapidly in people between 35 and 45 years of age. Smoking, obesity, family history and alcohol consumption are the main reasons. These results suggest that problems like uncontrolled diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol are promoting heart disease in youth.

Cases of heart disease increased in people under 40 years of age

According to Dr. Upendra Narayan Singh, cardiologist at Patna Medical College, heart disease cases have increased among people under 40 years of age in recent research. In India, this problem is being seen more often at a young age and more often than developed countries. The reason for this is modern lifestyle and stress as well as poor habits.

However, the good news is that heart disease can be prevented. If the youth take the right steps in time, then they can keep their heart healthy. Regular health checkups can monitor cholesterol, blood pressure and sugar levels, which can cause problems soon. Improvement in food and drink is also necessary. Increasing the intake of oils like fruits, vegetables, whole grains and olives benefits the heart. Also, processed foods and sugar should be reduced.

What is necessary to do yoga?

Physical activity is also very important. Five days a week, a light workout of just 30 minutes can reduce the risk of heart disease significantly. Methods like yoga and meditation can be adopted to reduce stress. Adequate sleep also controls stress. Smoking and distance from alcohol are also necessary, as both of them are harmful to the heart.

The increasing level of pollution in today’s runaway and stressful life is also a threat to heart health. It is necessary to adopt awareness and healthy lifestyle to prevent this. Small changes made at the age of 20 and 30 can keep the heart healthy for a long time. Start today for your heart health.
