Before the counting of votes in West Bengal, BJP has come into full action mode. Before the counting on May 4, an important strategic meeting of the party has been called in Kolkata on May 2. Those expatriate leaders who were given the responsibility of being in-charge of the assembly and zone in the West Bengal elections have been called to attend this meeting. All these leaders will be given important responsibilities on the day of counting. West Bengal in-charge Sunil Bansal and election in-charge Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav will attend this high-level meeting on behalf of the central leadership.

After voting in West Bengal, most of the exit polls are showing the formation of BJP government. Now BJP’s entire focus is on vote counting. A series of meetings are going on in BJP regarding this. Bengal in-charge Sunil Bansal and Bhupendra Yadav are camping in West Bengal. Immediately after the first voting, on April 30, Sunil Bansal and Bhupendra Yadav held a meeting with prominent party leaders in Kolkata and took the ground report regarding the voting.

After that, on May 1, both the leaders held a meeting with local party leaders and counting agents in Siliguri and informed them about the details of counting of votes at the counting centre. After that, on May 2, the party has called the expatriate leaders on election duty to Kolkata. A meeting will also be held with them and on the day of counting, they will be instructed by the party to stay in their respective areas of charge and keep an eye on the counting of votes.

The focus of this meeting is very clear that there should be no lapse at any level on the counting day. From booth level to counting centre, every arrangement will be reviewed in detail. The final strategy on who will be deployed at which centre, what will be the role of the agents and how monitoring of each round will be ensured will be decided in this meeting. All these leaders will also share ground reports and feedback of their respective areas, so that the ground situation can be accurately assessed.

In fact, the contest on many seats in Bengal is considered to be very close. On one hand, TMC is claiming to make a comeback on the basis of its welfare schemes, while on the other hand, BJP is claiming its victory, encouraged by the results of its ground reports and exit polls. In such a situation, BJP will keep a close eye on every round, every table and every data on the day of counting. This meeting of May 2 is not just a review of the preparations, but is being considered as the last strategic exercise of BJP for the decisive battle of May 4.

After TMC’s allegations, high voltage political drama continued in West Bengal late on the night of 30 April. First, TMC leaders sat on protest in front of the strongroom alleging EVM tampering. This issue became completely heated when CM Mamata Banerjee herself reached the EVM strongroom with the TMC worker. TMC had also released a video related to this, on which the Election Commission gave clarification.

Strict monitoring on Mamata Banerjee: Shubhendu Adhikari

TMC alleged that the party workers deployed for guarding outside the EVM strong room were deliberately removed by the central forces so that a conspiracy could be hatched to tamper with the EVMs inside the strong room. Now strict monitoring is being done by the security forces in and around the counting centers in Kolkata and other districts. Meanwhile, BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari said on Friday (April 1, 2026) that CM Mamata Banerjee is being closely monitored to prevent any kind of irregularity before the West Bengal election results.

CM Mamta stayed in EVM strong room for four hours

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee left the EVM strongroom at 12:07 pm on Thursday (30 April 2026) after spending four hours in the EVM strongroom. Subhendu Adhikari, who is challenging Mamata Banerjee from Bhawanipur seat, said that amid allegations of ballot box manipulation, strict monitoring of EVMs and strong rooms is being done. He shared a picture on social media, in which CM Mamata Banerjee is seen. He wrote, ‘I want to assure the people of West Bengal and Bhawanipur that the current CM has been given strict instructions to avoid taking undue advantage.’

He said that no matter how hard she tried, she (Mamata Banerjee) has been unable to indulge in any activity beyond the rules. Mamata Banerjee alleged that reports of EVM-related irregularities have come to light from many parts of the state. He said that after reviewing the CCTV footage, he decided to visit the strong room.

Tampering with vote counting process will not be tolerated: Mamata Banerjee

CM Mamata Banerjee said, ‘Public votes should be kept safe. I reached here after receiving complaints. Initially the central forces did not allow me to enter. Before the counting of votes on May 4, he said in a stern tone, ‘If there is any intention to tamper with the counting process, it will not be tolerated.’

There is no scope for any irregularities: Election Commission

West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Aggarwal said on Friday that there is no scope for any irregularities at the counting centers and the ‘strong room’ is being monitored 24 hours by CCTV. He said that in view of the arrangements, there is no scope for any kind of irregularities. The strong room is being monitored 24 hours by CCTV and people can see this surveillance from outside also. He also said that there should be solid reason and evidence to make allegations and the complaints are baseless
