West Indies Vs Bangladesh 3rd T20I Match: The year 2025 has been very special for West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd. After winning the IPL trophy with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) earlier this year, he has now become the second bowler to take a hat-trick in T20 Internationals for West Indies.

The final match of the 3-match T20 series between West Indies and Bangladesh was played on 31 October 2025 in Chattogram. In the last overs of this match, Shepherd destroyed the lower order batsmen of Bangladesh with his excellent bowling. Shepherd’s hat-trick not only changed the course of the third T20 International, but also played an important role in giving West Indies a 3-0 clean sweep.

Shepherd took a hat-trick in T20 International

Romario Shepherd completed his hat-trick in the 17th and 20th overs of the innings. Shepherd dismissed Bangladesh’s wicketkeeper batsman Nurul Hasan on the last ball of the 17th over and then in the last over, Shepherd completed his hat-trick by dismissing Tanjid Hasan, who was batting at 89 runs, on the first ball and Shoriful Islam on the second ball. In this match, Romario took 3 wickets for 36 runs in 4 overs.

Became the second bowler to take a hat-trick for West Indies

Romario Shepherd has become the second bowler to take a hat-trick for West Indies in T20 International cricket. Before him, Jason Holder had taken a hat-trick against England in 2021. Holder took four wickets in four balls in that match. In this match, Holder took 5 wickets for 27 runs in 2.5 overs. This achievement of Shepherd has given him a special place in the history of West Indies cricket.

Will RCB retain Romario?

Royal Challengers Bangalore had bought Romario Shepherd for the base price of Rs 1.5 crore for the 2025 IPL season. Shepherd had made an important contribution in making RCB the champion in 2025 with his all-round performance. Now his excellent performance in international cricket has strengthened the claim to retain him before the next season’s auction.

Shepherd made his T20 International debut for West Indies in 2020. Romario has taken 71 wickets in 66 matches at an average of 27.71 and an economy rate of less than 10. Now he is getting closer to taking 200 wickets in T20 format.

West Indies has defeated Bangladesh in the T20 series at home by registering its second consecutive win in the three-match T20 series. In the second match played in Chittagong, West Indies defeated Bangladesh by 14 runs and took an unassailable 0-2 lead in the series.

Bangladesh did not have a good start while chasing the target of 150 runs given by West Indies. Opener Saif Hasan was out after scoring only 5 runs. The second opener Tanjid Hasan scored a half-century and made the team win the match by playing an innings of 61 runs in 48 balls. However, he did not get the support from the other end as expected. Captain Liton Das was out after scoring 23 runs, Tauhid Hridoy 13, and Zaker Ali 17 runs.

Bangladesh needed 65 runs to win in the last 8 overs and had 7 wickets. But, from here the West Indies bowlers made a strong comeback and restricted Bangladesh to 135 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.

For West Indies, Jason Holder took 2 wickets for 20 runs in 4 overs, Romario Shepherd took 3 wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs, and Akeal Hosein took 3 wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs.

Earlier, after winning the toss and batting first, West Indies had scored 149 runs for 9 wickets. Alick Athanje and Shai Hope had scored half-centuries. Athanje scored 52 runs in 33 balls with the help of 5 fours and 3 sixes. Captain Hope scored 55 runs in 36 balls with the help of 3 sixes and 3 fours. There was an important partnership of 105 runs between the two for the second wicket. Apart from this, Roston Chase scored 17 runs and Romario Shepherd scored 13 runs.

For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman took 3 wickets, Nasum Ahmed took 2 wickets, Rishad Hussain took 2 wickets, Taskin Ahmed took 1 wicket. West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd was the player of the match.

The game of Super Over also remained exciting till the last ball. Bangladesh had to score 3 runs on the last ball to win, but Saif Hasan could score only one run. In this way the Caribbean team ensured victory by one run on the last ball of the Super Over.

While bowling in the first innings in this match, the West Indies spin bowlers bowled all 50 overs. The spinners allowed Bangladeshi batsmen to score only 213 runs. This is the first time in men’s ODI cricket that the spin bowlers of a team have bowled all 50 overs.

West Indies has written a new history in cricket. It has become the first team in the world for which spin bowlers have bowled all 50 overs in the entire innings of an ODI match. For West Indies, all 50 overs in the second ODI were bowled by spinners, against whom Bangladesh could score only 213 runs. Akil Hussain, Roston Chase, Khary Pierre, Gudakesh Moti and Alick Athanaje bowled 10 overs each for the Caribbean team. This has happened for the first time in men’s ODI cricket.

The West Indies team had included only all-rounder Justin Greaves in the playing eleven as a fast bowling option. West Indies captain Shai Hope did not bowl to him in the entire 50 overs. Alek Athanaze usually does not bowl full 10 overs in ODI matches, but this time he took 2 wickets for just 14 runs in 10 overs. Gudakesh Moti was the most expensive but also the most successful bowler of the team. He took 3 wickets for 65 runs in 10 overs at an economy rate of 6.50.

This is the same pitch where the first ODI match of both the teams was played. In that match, Bangladesh defeated West Indies by 74 runs on the basis of Rishad Hussain’s 6 wickets. This time West Indies chose a spin dominant team and this strategy has proved effective to a great extent.

Most overs by spinners in an ODI innings

Earlier, Sri Lanka held the record of most overs bowled by spinners in a single ODI innings. In the 1996 ODI match against West Indies, Sri Lankan spinners bowled 44 overs. Sri Lanka has 8 out of the first 9 places in this list. Sri Lanka has many times bowled more than 40 overs with spinners in an ODI inning. Whereas for India, 41.2 overs were bowled by spin bowlers against West Indies in 2011.
