In the year 1767, Priestley conducted a unique experiment. He poured sulfuric acid on the chalk, which released carbon dioxide gas. Then he dissolved this gas in plain water. This was the world’s first artificial carbonated water. When it was tasted, it was found to be mildly spicy and refreshing, which later became soda water.

Priestley did not limit his research to himself. In the year 1772, he presented this technology to the world through a book. This step opened the way for soda water to reach the common people.
