US Iran War: From May 1, America will again attack Iran, the question is because now the deadline is very near, when US President Donald Trump will have to take permission from Congress to continue the war. America started war against Iran on 28 February. Formal information about this was given to the US Parliament on March 2. Now this 2nd date is completing 60 days on 2nd May. On this basis, a time limit of 60 days is fixed. This deadline comes under the American law ‘War Power Resolution’.

Why was it implemented in the year 1973?

• The purpose of this law, implemented in 1973, was to limit the war-related powers of the President. Also the role of Congress had to be strengthened. If the President uses the military without the approval of Parliament, he has to seek permission from Congress within 60 days.
• In this case, counting from March 2, May 1 becomes the last date. Within this, the Trump administration will have to obtain the approval of Parliament. If this does not happen, then military action should be ended as per law.
• To gain approval, a simple majority is required in both the US Parliament and Senate. But, till now no formal approval has been received regarding this action. According to American media reports, at least 10 MPs from Trump’s own party are against this war, which may make it difficult to gather majority.
• Many presidents did not accept this law. These include Nixon, Ronald Reagan, George W Bush, Bill Clinton, Obama and Trump himself. His argument has been that this law interferes with the constitutional powers of the President. Especially when it comes to national security and quick military action.
• If Congress does not approve, the President may still try to continue military action based on some legal interpretation or national security argument. This may also create a situation of conflict between the executive and the legislature.
