Which Deficiency Causes Mood Problems: When the mind suddenly starts feeling heavy, the reason is not always external. Sometimes the body itself is giving signals. There come some days when sleep is fine, work pressure is not much, yet the mood feels low. In such a situation, we often blame lifestyle, but the real story is a little deeper. What goes on the plate every day affects the way the brain works.

Problems related to vitamins and minerals

Doctors are now seeing a pattern. Many people come complaining of anxiety, irritability or low mood and later realize that there is a deficiency of essential nutrients in the body. The brain not only operates on emotions, but it also depends on chemical processes and these processes are related to vitamins and minerals.

What do experts say?

Dr Saurabh Mehrotra, an expert at Medanta, told TOI that “Stress, anxiety and mood swings are often linked to a hectic life or lack of sleep, but in many cases, nutritional deficiency can also be the reason. The brain needs adequate vitamins and minerals to produce neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine and GABA, which regulate mood and focus.”

Effect of Vitamin D deficiency

Vitamin D deficiency often affects silently. It is considered essential for bones, but it also affects the mental condition. Reasons like less sunlight in cities, staying at home or office for a long time and pollution reduce its quantity in the body. This may cause fatigue, lethargy and deterioration in mood. According to Dr. Mehrotra, this is one of the most common deficiencies and can also lead to symptoms like depression.

Vitamin B12 deficiency

Vitamin B12 deficiency affects gradually. Constant fatigue, foggy mind and lack of concentration can be its signs. This problem is especially seen in vegetarian people, elderly people and people with digestive problems. It is necessary for the proper functioning of nerves and brain, hence its deficiency also affects the emotional state.

This problem occurs due to lack of these things

Similarly, Vitamin B6 and folate are also essential for the brain. They help in producing chemicals that keep us calm and balanced. Their deficiency often appears not as physical but as emotional imbalance. Magnesium is considered a natural calming element of the body. Its deficiency can lead to restlessness, headache, lack of sleep and anxiety, while iron deficiency reduces the supply of oxygen to the brain, causing fatigue, lack of concentration and deterioration in mood. However, lack of nutrition is not always the reason for bad mood. Dr. Mehrotra says that anxiety and stress can occur due to many reasons.

Can Eating Meat Reduce Dementia Risk: If you have a gene related to Alzheimer’s present in your body, then a small change in your diet can reduce the risk of dementia to a great extent. A new study has revealed that in people who consume meat regularly, the risk of memory loss and dementia can be reduced by almost half. According to scientists, a gene named APOE is associated with Alzheimer’s and is found in most cases of the disease. The risk of dementia is especially high in people with APOE4 variants. But research has found that if such people increase the amount of meat in their diet, it can have a positive effect on their brain.

What came out in the research?

This study was conducted by researchers from Stockholm University, in which more than 2000 people aged 60 years or older were tracked for about 15 years, during which their eating habits were monitored and especially meat consumption was kept in focus. The results of the research were shocking. People who had the APOE4 gene in their bodies and who ate the most meat were found to have about 45 percent less risk of dementia compared to those who ate less meat. Not only this, these people’s ability to think and understand also remained better and the pace of mental decline was seen to be slower.

Read this also- Why are the cases of heart attack less in women than men, what is the reason?

What kind of meat is beneficial?

However, an important thing also came to light here. Not all types of meat are beneficial. Processed meats like bacon, sausage or highly processed meats can be harmful to the brain and may increase the risk of dementia. That means, if you want benefits, then it is important to give priority to unprocessed meat. Scientists believe that Vitamin B12 may play a role in this benefit. This vitamin is found in good quantity in meat, which is very important for brain health and memory. Deficiency of B12 can lead to weak memory, difficulty in understanding and even mental problems.

These things are beneficial

However, scientists also believe that this research is still at an initial stage and cannot be considered as a completely final conclusion. Some experts say that lifestyle, financial condition and other habits can also affect it. Nevertheless, it is clear that eating right, active lifestyle and staying mentally active helps in keeping the brain healthy in the long run.
