Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Friday (June 12) launched a scathing attack on the rebel faction of the party, calling them ‘traitors’. Referring to the provisions of the Constitution, he said, former TMC MPs do not know the law, they cannot form a separate group.

Posting on social media platform X, he wrote, ‘Former TMC MPs do not know about the law. It has been made clear in the 91st Amendment of the Constitution (2003) that no separate faction can be formed, for this the number of MPs does not matter. Two-thirds of the members of the original political party will have to merge with some other party. He further said that ‘all 19 traitors will have to resign and contest elections on BJP ticket.’

TMC struggling with discord and resignations

After the defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress is struggling with internal strife and continuous resignations of leaders. Three Rajya Sabha MPs of the party have resigned so far, while there are reports of 19 MPs rebelling in the Lok Sabha also. On Friday (June 12), the list with signatures of rebel MPs came out. According to sources, it was sent to the office of the Lok Sabha Speaker on May 18.

Sayoni’s name also in the list of rebels

The most shocking name in the list of TMC rebels is that of Sayoni Ghosh. He is considered trusted by Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee. Sayoni is TMC MP from Jadavpur seat. If she joins the rebel group, it will be considered a big blow for TMC. Apart from this, names of Yusuf Pathan and Shatabdi Roy are also included in the list.
