These flaws were found in WhatsApp

CVE-2026-23863, the first flaw found in the messaging platform, could have targeted WhatsApp running on Windows systems. An attachment spoofing issue was found in it, due to which the malicious file looked like a normal document, but when opened, it could do its work. Due to this, users could get misled and open any harmful file. The second flaw was CVE-2026-23866, which was affecting the Android and iOS versions of WhatsApp. Taking advantage of this, attackers could load content from external sources on a user’s phone. Both of these were considered medium level flaws and WhatsApp has released a security patch to fix them.

Meta said that both these flaws were discovered through the bug bounty program. In this program the company gives a prize for finding bugs. The company also informed that no attack could be carried out through these flaws. Now even though these flaws have been removed, it shows that despite all the efforts, even platforms like WhatsApp cannot be completely hack proof and they too may have to face security challenges.

WhatsApp users have been advised to keep their app updated. Users can download the latest version of WhatsApp by visiting Play Store or App Store.
