After the funeral, only the remains of the bones of the dead body remain. These remains are also burnt to a large extent and they are kept as bones. It is necessary to immerse them within 13 days, so that the soul can get peace and salvation.

According to the Garuda Purana, bones are collected on the third, seventh or ninth day and then immersed in the Ganges or any other holy river within ten days.

In the bone immersion method, after collecting the remaining ash after cremation, it is placed in a red cloth or urn and flows with chanting and prayer in a holy river like Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari etc.

The purpose of this process is to give salvation to the departed soul and destroy all its sins, so that the soul brings peace.
