Medicines alone cannot end this crisis, but GLP-1 therapy can help millions of people reduce obesity and its associated risks.” However, WHO also said that more data is still needed on the long-term effects and safety of these medicines.

• regular physical exercise
• behavior modification

Dr. Shailesh Jena, an endocrinologist at Shaheed Hospital in Raipur, says that this new guideline of WHO is a step taken in the right direction. According to him, “GLP-1 drugs have given better results than expected in the treatment of obesity. These drugs control appetite, improve metabolism and increase insulin sensitivity. In such a situation, they can prove to be a great help for patients on whom the effect of diet and workout is limited.” According to Dr. Shailesh Jena, obesity is not a simple problem of weight gain, but a metabolic disorder in the body, which needs long-term management.
