A strange situation arose in the White House of America on Monday, when US President Donald Trump came face to face with Australian Ambassador Kevin Rudd. This incident happened when Trump was holding a press conference with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

In fact, an Australian journalist asked Trump whether he had any problem with the old statements of Prime Minister Albanese’s government or Ambassador Rudd? To this Trump replied, “I don’t know anything about him,” while Kevin Rudd was present in the same room. Trump then asked Rudd, “Did you do anything wrong? Are you still in government?” To this Rudd smiled and said, “No, Mr. President, I was in the government before coming to this post.”

What did Trump say to Rudd during the meeting?

According to local media reports, during their later meeting in the Oval Office, Trump told Rudd, “I don’t like you and probably never will.” This sourness between the two is not new. In the year 2020, Kevin Rudd had called Trump the most destructive president in history, in response to which Trump called Rudd a “dirty” and “less intelligent” person.

PM Albanese tried to strengthen relations with America

However, even amidst this tension, Prime Minister Albanese tried to strengthen relations with America. Both the countries signed a new agreement to increase cooperation on Rare Earths and Critical Minerals, which is considered a big step towards reducing dependence on China. Another important aspect of this meeting was that the Trump administration is currently reviewing the AUKUS defense agreement, which includes the US, Australia and Britain.

It is clear from this entire incident that even though relations between Trump and Rudd may be strained, the strategic interests of both the countries are still in the same direction, the aim of which is to stop the growing influence of China and strengthen mutual defense partnership.
