If you have mild symptoms like headache, cough, fever or cold and you take medicine again and again without consulting the doctor, then be careful now. Health experts say that such self-medication and repeated use of antibiotics is creating such a condition in the body in which the medicine stops being effective. This is called antibiotic resistance which is being considered a big health problem in the coming times.

Shocking revelation in WHO report

According to a new report by the World Health Organization, in the year 2023, one out of every 6 bacterial infections has been found to be resistant to antibiotics. This means that common medicines were not working on so many bacterial infections. WHO said that this problem is most seen in bacteria causing infections in the urinary tract and blood flow. According to the Global Antibiotic Resistance Surveillance Report 2025, the rate of antibiotic resistance is highest in the region of South East Asia including India. According to the report, 70 percent of blood flow infection and more than 78 percent of E. coli infection cases in India have been found to be resistant to antibiotics. This means that common medicines are no longer working and treatment is becoming difficult.

Why is the danger increasing?

Experts say that people buy antibiotics without doctor’s advice and leave the course of medicine incomplete. Due to this, not only the harmful bacteria of the body but also the beneficial bacteria are killed. Due to which gradually such bacteria start growing in the body which cannot be eliminated by any medicine. This condition is called antibiotic resistance. According to doctors, if this condition continues like this then even normal viral can take a serious form. In such a situation, patients may have to stay in the hospital for a longer time and the cost of treatment will also increase. Regarding this, WHO has also warned that if the right steps are not taken even now, this problem may become more dangerous in the coming years.

What to do and what not to do?

Do not take any antibiotic medicine in every minor illness and if there is no improvement in the disease then take antibiotic medicine only on the advice of the doctor.

Finish the course of medicine, do not leave it midway.

Do not give the medicine that the doctor has prescribed for you to anyone else.

Also, take care of cleanliness and try to avoid infection as much as possible.

Air pollution is no longer just a matter of pollution, but it has become the biggest health crisis that directly endangers human life. According to the recently released Lancet Countdown report, prepared in collaboration with WHO, more than 17 lakh people died in India in 2022 due to exposure to the smallest particulate pollutants like PM 2.5. PM 2.5 contains such small particles that they can penetrate deep into the lungs and cause serious diseases. In such a situation, let us know what is there in this report of WHO.

What is in this report of WHO?

It has also been said in the report that this number is much higher than in the last 12 years. That means the risk of air pollution is continuously increasing and it is having a deep impact on health. According to the Lancet report, deaths due to air pollution in India are now at worrying levels. According to the report, there will be more than 1,718,000 deaths due to human-caused air pollution in India in 2022, which is 38 percent more than in 2010. The contribution of coal and liquid gas in this is about 44 percent. At the same time, 3,94,000 deaths occurred due to the use of coal alone, out of which 2,98,000 deaths occurred due to the use of coal in power plants. At the same time, 2,69,000 deaths occurred due to use of petrol in road transport.

Air Pollution and Climate Change Alert

The report warns that the impact of air pollution and climate change is very serious in India. In 2024, India will face an average of about 20 days of heat waves per person, and about one-third of these will be directly attributable to climate change. Not only this, heat related deaths have also increased by 23 percent.

Experts say that air pollution has made India one of the most affected countries in the world. Kolkata-based pulmonologist Arup Haldar said that deaths due to air pollution in 2022 were three times more than deaths due to Covid-19 that year. This figure clearly shows the dangerous nature of air pollution and its wide-ranging economic and social impact on human health. The report has also estimated the economic loss. The value of premature deaths due to air pollution in 2022 was approximately $339.4 billion, which is equivalent to 9.5 percent of India’s GDP.

Often, whenever you feel any problem like sore throat, fever or urinary tract infection i.e. UTI, the doctor definitely gives you antibiotic medicine and this also provides relief. What will happen if this medicine does not work in future? Now this is becoming a reality. According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), 1 out of every 6 bacterial infections in the world has become such that antibiotics are not effective. This means that medicines are becoming ineffective on these patients and treatment is becoming difficult. This condition is very serious and is called antibiotic resistance. Let us know that if antibiotics do not work, what will be the impact on humans and how many deaths will increase?

What effect will antibiotic resistance have on humans and how many deaths will increase?

People often take antibiotics without doctor’s advice or do not finish the entire course, due to this the bacteria do not become weak but become stronger. When bacteria become resistant to antibiotics, it becomes difficult to kill them. Due to this, the disease lasts longer, the patient has to be admitted to the hospital, treatment becomes expensive and the risk of death increases. Globally, more than 12 lakh people die every year due to antibiotic resistance and it is believed that by 2050 this figure may reach 1 crore deaths every year.

Which diseases are being affected more?

WHO report shows that these medicines are becoming ineffective especially in urinary tract infections, blood stream infections, lung infections, skin infections and drug-resistant TB infections. The problem is most severe in South Asia and the eastern Mediterranean, where one in three infections is no longer treatable with antibiotics. At the same time, if antibiotics become ineffective, then surgery will be dangerous, the risk of life will increase due to infection during pregnancy and delivery, cancer patients can die from infection after chemotherapy and common diseases, like typhoid and pneumonia, will also become fatal. To prevent this, always take antibiotics only after consulting the doctor. Complete the full course of antibiotics, do not take antibiotics for every infection, and strengthen the healthcare system.

Global hypertension cases surge: According to the latest report of the World Health Organization (WHO), cases of hypertension are increasing rapidly worldwide. Currently about 1.4 billion (140 crore) people in the world are struggling with this disease. Surprisingly, only 20 percent of these people are able to control their blood pressure, while the rest are either not reaching treatment or they do not know that they have this problem.

According to the WHO report, the hypertension has now become a major cause of deaths. This disease is killing millions of people every year. It has been said in the report that more than 1000 people in the world are dying of diseases like stroke and heart attack every hour, which is the main reason for increased blood pressure. If hypertension is treated on time and properly, then from 2023 to 2050, about 7.6 crore deaths can be avoided.

Reasons for increasing hypertension

Unhealthy food, more salt and processed food intake.

Lack of physical activities, do not exercise.

Smoking and alcohol consumption.

Stress and irregular lifestyle.

Lack of awareness – More than half of the people do not even know that they have hypertension.

Effect on health

Hypertension is often called “silent killer”, as it gradually damages many parts of the body. Extending blood pressure for a long time:

The risk of heart disease and heart failure increases.

Stroke means brain can be hemorrhage or blockage.

Kidney failure may be a problem.

The risk of dementia and other neurological diseases increases.

Economic and social burden

The report states that low and medium -income countries are estimated to have a financial loss of US $ 3.7 trillion between 2011 and 2025 due to diseases related to heart and blood pressure. This is about 2 percent of the total GDP of these countries.

What is the solution?

WHO has suggested several steps to deal with the hypertension:

Strengthen primary health services and facilitates regular blood pressure check.

Ensuring inexpensive and accessible availability of drugs recommended by WHO.

To raise awareness among people so that they are cautious about their health.

Healthy lifestyle adoption- reduce salt intake, exercise, smoking and stay away from alcohol and reduce stress.

In the modern round, lifestyle has changed over the extent. In many places, the situation is such that people are forced to live alone, but this loneliness is now snatching people’s breath. It has been revealed in the WHO’s recent report from Lonelyness to Social Connection, which states that 100 people are dying every hour due to loneliness. How dangerous it is and what is it, let’s know how to avoid it?

What makes the difference with loneliness?

According to the WHO report, loneliness not only affects the mental health, but it also affects physical health badly. This increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes, stroke and untimely death. According to the new research, this problem has become more serious after the Kovid-19 epidemic. Youth and people living in cities are getting more vulnerable to it.

How dangerous is loneliness?

According to the published research in the Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care, Mental Health Problems in India have increased very fast during the corona epidemic. This figure is more worrying in urban areas, where 22% of people are experiencing loneliness. According to the report, 40% of the youth in the age group of 16-24 feel lonely, which is much higher than the 29% of the elderly aged 65-74 years. Apart from this, the Economic Survey 2024-25 also mentions that Mental health problems, including loneliness, can cause India $ 1.03 trillion economic loss between 2012-2030.

The constantly increasing threat to loneliness in India

The state of loneliness in India is also worrying. According to the report, 10.1% of people in the country are struggling with loneliness, and this percentage is very high in urban areas. Research has revealed that the increasing social distance after Kovid-19 and digital connections has increased loneliness. Experts believe that this problem is taking a serious form due to families being small, urbanization and busy lifestyle. In metros like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, the problems of tension and loneliness among youth have increased.

What is the effect on health?

According to the WHO, loneliness increases the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and stroke. Also, its connection is told by diseases like memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s. It has a lot of effect on mental health, due to which the risk of depression, anxiety and suicide increases significantly. People struggling with loneliness become weak at both physical and mental levels.

What do doctors give advice?

Dr. Sanjay Rai of Delhi AIIMS says that regular physical activities and social connections are very important to reduce loneliness. Taking a walk in the park or meeting friends can be beneficial for health. At the same time, youth should reduce screen time and should be included in offline activities. Elderly and weak immunity people need to take special care.
