Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has lost the election from Bhawanipur seat of West Bengal. BJP’s Subhendu Adhikari defeated CM Mamata by a margin of 15,105 votes. This is the second time that he had to face defeat at the hands of Shubhendu Adhikari. With the election results, this seat has once again come into the center of state politics. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been an MLA from this seat. After winning the elections, Shubhendu said that it was necessary to defeat Mamata Banerjee.

‘Muslims chose Mamata, Hindus made me win’

BJP’s Subhendu Adhikari shows his victory certificate after securing a massive victory against West Bengal CM and TMC candidate Mamata Banerjee in Bhawanipur assembly seat. He said, ‘It was very important to defeat Mamata Banerjee. This is Mamata Banerjee’s retirement from politics. This time too she lost by more than 15,000 votes. Muslims voted for him wholeheartedly. In ward number 77, all the Muslims who came to vote voted for Mamata. Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists blessed me and made me win. This victory is the victory of Hindutva.

Strong CPM supporters voted for me: Shubhendu Adhikari

He said, ‘All the strong supporters of CPM voted for me. CPM had 13,000 votes in Bhawanipur and I got at least 10,000 of them. I also thank the CPM voters there. All Bengali Hindus voted for me wholeheartedly. Along with them, Gujaratis, Jains, Marwaris, Purvanchalis and Sikh community also voted for me wholeheartedly.

Shubhendu Adhikari said, ‘Union Home Minister Amit Shah called me two-three times. He also expressed some concern about Bhawanipur. I told him some time ago. I haven’t talked to anyone else. I was not allowed to use the phone. I’m going to tell them right now. He is waiting. I also have to get Nandigram certificate.

BJP made a dent in TMC’s stronghold

Bhawanipur seat has been a TMC stronghold for a long time. If we look at Mamata Banerjee’s defeat in this election, it is somewhat like the 2021 assembly election results. Even in the 2021 assembly elections, Mamata Banerjee had to face defeat from Nandigram seat. Mamata Banerjee was defeated by Subhendu Adhikari from here. For Mamata Banerjee, the defeat at the hands of Shubhendu was also big because at one time Adhikari was among Mamata Banerjee’s special associates. Then, whether it was the Nandigram movement or the political rise of Mamata Banerjee through the movement in Singur, but time passed and Shubhendu Adhikari parted ways with Mamata Banerjee and joined the BJP.

Mamata Banerjee’s defeat in two consecutive elections

The special thing is that in two consecutive elections, TMC supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had to face defeat at the hands of Shubhendu Adhikari. After the defeat in Nandigram in 2021, Mamata Banerjee moved to Bhawanipur and held the reins of power by winning the by-election here. In this election, once again Shubhendu Adhikari announced his candidature from Bhawanipur along with Nandigram. Even before the election results, BJP leaders were continuously claiming that they would win from Bhawanipur and their claim turned into reality late in the evening of 4th May.
