<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>August wpi inflation: </strong>The Ministry of Commerce and Industry today released data of the Wholesale Price Index (WPI). In August, the wholesale price index based inflation has increased from 0.58 percent to 0.52 percent. In August, inflation increased due to the increase in prices of food items, manufacturing products, non-food substances, non-food mineral products and transport devices. </p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">Prices of these things also increased</h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The primary items index have risen by 1.60 percent, which increased from 188.0 in July 2025 to 191.0 in August. The prices of non-food items have increased by 2.92 percent. After this, the prices of minerals have increased by 2.66 % and food items prices by 1.45 percent.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">During this time, the price of manufacturing products has also increased. Manufactured Products is the largest segment of WPI basket. Prices of manufactured products also increased by 0.21 percent in August as compared to July. This shows that the prices of goods made in factories have increased. Along with this, prices of food products, textile, electrical equipment, other transport equipment and machinery have increased. </p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">These things became cheap</h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Fuel and electricity inflation declined by 0.69 percent to 143.6 in August, which was 144.6 last month. Electricity prices declined by 2.91 percent, while the price of mineral oil saw a slight decline of 0.07 percent. Coal prices remained stable compared to July. The inflation rate of raw petroleum and natural gas was 0.43 percent in August. In addition, prices of base metals, computers, electronic and optical products, clothing, wood products and furniture have decreased. </p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">Retail inflation also increased</h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Recently, figures of retail inflation were also released. In August, retail inflation increased to 2.07 percent. It was 1.55 percent in July. Now the wholesale inflation has also increased. That is, inflation has increased in the wholesale market along with the total retail. </p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Medicine price hike:</strong> As soon as the start of the new financial year in the country, inflation has also been hit on the public. The government has decided to increase the price of more than 900 essential medicines from April 1. That is, now you will have to pay a higher price for many medicines. According to the information, the Pharmaceuticals Pricing Authority (NPPA) has announced a 1.74 percent increase in prices of more than 900 medicines. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The special thing is that the drugs whose price has been increased, includes medicines for diseases like diabetes, heart disease, pen killer, critical infection, fever. The drugs that have been increased from April 1 include tablets like Agethromycin, Ibruprophone, Diclofenne, Metformin, Hydrochloride, Ayclovir. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Who can increase the price</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">According to the provisions of Drugs Order, 2013, all scheduled medicines are amended on the basis of wholesale Price Index (WPI) at the cost of all scheduled medicines. This amendment takes place every year. In the financial year 2024-25, the price of drugs on the basis of WPI was increased at a rate of 0.00551 percent. </p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Medicines pris increases in fY 2025-26: </strong>The financial year 2025-26 has started in the country from 1 April i.e. today and the increase in prices of 900 essential medicines has also come into force from the very first day of the new financial year i.e. on Tuesday (April 1, 2025). The National Pharmaceuticals Pricing Authority (NPPA) has announced an increase of up to 1.74 percent in the prices of more than 900 essential medicines. The list of drugs with these increased prices includes medicines for diseases like critical infection, heart disease, diabetes.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Minister replied in Lok Sabha</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Anupriya Patel gave a written reply to the increase in the price of medicines in the Lok Sabha. In his written reply, he said, “According to the provisions of Drugs (Price Control) Order, 2013 (DPCO, 2013), all scheduled drug prices are amended every year based on wholesale Price Index (WPI) (all commodities). The rate of 0.00551 percent was increased. ”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">He said, “NPPA has fixed the retail prices of new drugs, according to DPCO&#8217;s paragraph 2 (1) (U). </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Which drug prices increased</strong><strong>,</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">According to a report by Financial Express, the price of 250mg and 500mg of Antibiotic Agethromycin has been fixed at Rs 11.87 and Rs 23.98 per tablet respectively.</p>
<ul style="text-align: justify;">&#13;</p>
<li>The price of dry syrup containing amoxicillin and cleavulonic acid has been fixed at Rs 2.09 per milliliter.</li>
<p>&#13;</p>
<li>The maximum price of diclofenac (pen keeper) has been fixed at Rs 2.09 per tablet.</li>

<p style="text-align: justify;">However, drug manufactures can increase the maximum retail prices of these drugs based on WPI without any acceptance of the central government.</p>
