1- Injuries of players

The biggest reason for Chennai Super Kings not reaching the playoffs was the injury to the players. While Nathan Ellis was out of the tournament due to injury, Ayush Mhatre appeared to be in good form, but Ayush Mhatre’s exit due to injury was a big shock. Khalil Ahmed also got injured after playing 5 matches, while Jamie Overton, who was making important contributions with both bat and ball, was also out of IPL 2026 due to injury at a crucial time.

2- Young players disappointed

For IPL 2026, Chennai Super Kings had played a big bet on many young players. Prashant Veer and Karthik Sharma were bought by Chennai Super Kings by spending more than Rs 14 crore each. However, both the players could not live up to the expectations this season. Urvil Patel could also score only one half-century this season.

3- Captain continued to flop

Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad kept flopping with the batsman. Gaikwad was the main batsman of the team, but he disappointed every time. Gaikwad could score only 337 runs in IPL 2026 at a strike rate of 123.

4- Finishers Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dubey did not live up to expectations.

Dewald Brevis was expected to perform brilliantly in IPL 2026. However, Brewis did not live up to the team’s expectations. Brewis scored 151 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of just 127. Brewis could not score even a half-century in IPL 2026. At the same time, Shivam Dubey also did not live up to the role of finisher this time.

5- Lack of experience in bowling department

The lack of experience in the bowling department of Chennai Super Kings was clearly visible this season. Anshul Kamboj was the main bowler of Chennai, who does not have much experience. After Khalil Ahmed’s exit, the team’s fast bowling attack looked even weaker. Spencer Johnson and Gurjapneet Singh also faced a similar fate. Noor Ahmed’s performance lacked consistency in the spin department and he also failed to control the runs.
