In the 1990s, there was a lot of talk about the affair of Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty in Bollywood circles. Their relationship also attracted a lot of media attention. However, the couple separated after a few years. Producer Sunil Darshan, who has done many films with Akshay Kumar, recently told during an interview that Akshay and Shilpa were once thinking seriously about marriage. He also told why their relationship broke.

‘Fate had decided something else for Akshay’
Speaking to Bollywood Thikana, filmmaker Sunil talked about the past relationship between Akshay and Shilpa, calling them a “good looking couple” but also said that “fate has its own plans.” He told that years ago, an astrologer close to Twinkle Khanna’s father, Rajesh Khanna, had made a shocking prediction that Akshay and Twinkle would get married one day. At the time, Sunil admitted that he did not pay attention to it, and said, “They had nothing to do with each other at that time.”

Why did Akshay’s relationship with Shilpa break?,
Looking back, he found this strange, and said, “Incidentally, if Shilpa’s parents had not set those conditions, life would have taken a different turn.” When asked about those conditions, Sunil said, “As parents, there is nothing wrong in what parents want for the safety of their daughter.”

Akshay Kumar faced difficulties in his relationship due to circumstances.
When asked whether he meant financial security, Sunil replied, “All kinds of security, all parents want this.” He further said that he did not completely agree with the way Shilpa’s parents were parenting, and said, “I thought it was wrong on the part of the parents. It was not meant to be like this. Let’s look at it that way.”

Was Akshay Kumar heartbroken after the breakup?
Shilpa and Akshay’s breakup happened some time before the shooting of Ek Rishta. Recalling that time, when Sunil was asked if Akshay was heartbroken, he replied, “He was not heartbroken. I thought he was doing well. He is making a comeback.” Sunil recalled that Akshay was very busy with his work at that time, and was managing several films ‘Dhadkan’, ‘Hera Pheri’ and ‘Ek Rishta’ around the same time.

Akshay and Shilpa moved ahead in life
In 2001, Akshay Kumar started a new chapter in his life by marrying Twinkle Khanna, and now the two are raising their two children together. Years later, in 2009, Shilpa Shetty found her life partner in Raj Kundra, and the couple also has two children.
