The Women Army Officers of the Short Service Commission (SSC) told the Supreme Court on Thursday (September 18, 2025) that they are being discriminated against in giving permanent commission. She says that she has been a part of important campaigns like Galwan, Balakot and Operation Sindoor, yet she has faced discrimination compared to male officials at the time of permanent commission.

Justice Suryakant, Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan and Justice N. Kotishwar Singh were hearing the bench case. Serving and service-free women officials said that the government has repeatedly violated the instructions issued by the Supreme Court in 2020 and 2021.

According to PTI report, Senior Advocate V Mohna appeared in the court on behalf of some officials. He told the bench, “The government has repeatedly violated the mandate issued in 2020 and 2021 and has discriminated against women officials in giving permanent commission.”

Advocate V Mohna said that the government has blamed the number of vacant posts for the low number of women officers in the permanent commission, but since 2021 there have been many occasions when the limit of 250 officers was violated. The lawyer said, ‘These officers are very talented and have also performed well in important campaigns like Galwan, Balakot and recent Operation Sindoor. Apart from this, he has given equal services to his male officers in many adverse areas.

The arguments from women officials have been fulfilled. Now the Supreme Court will hold the next hearing in this case on 24 September. In the next hearing, the Center will present its arguments, Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati will appear in the court to present the side of the center.
