Sri Lanka lost despite a good start

Chasing the huge target of 222 runs, Sri Lanka got off to a good start by making an opening partnership of 59 runs even before the end of the powerplay. At one time Sri Lanka had scored 116 runs at the loss of only one wicket. At the same time, captain Atapattu was out after scoring 52 runs.

What does the rule say?

Rule 30.1.1 in MCC’s Rule Book states that the batsman will be considered out of the ground until a part of his body or bat is hinged from the ground at that end. At the same time, Rule 30.1.2 says that the batsman will not be considered out of ground when he grounds a part of the body or bat inside the popping crease while running or diving, even if the player’s contact with the popping crease is lost after that.
