Home Minister Amit Shah, who visited Kolkata before the assembly elections in West Bengal, on Saturday (March 28, 2026) fiercely targeted the Trinamool Congress government of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. During this, he also issued a charge sheet against the 15 years of the Mamata government’s tenure. A few hours later, Trinamool Congress (TMC) also issued similar documents and raised questions on the safety of women in BJP ruled states.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) in its charge sheet has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of polarizing the electoral state of West Bengal and avoiding accountability for its actions on several issues including women’s safety. TMC leaders questioned the BJP-led government over the long-running violence in Manipur, women’s safety in BJP-ruled states and the Centre’s handling of illegal immigration.

TMC leaders targeted Amit Shah

According to news agency PTI, just hours after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s press conference, senior TMC leader and West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu, MP Mahua Moitra and MP Kirti Azad held a joint press conference targeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah for criticizing the TMC government on women’s safety.

TMC Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra said, ‘Amit Shah is talking about women’s safety. What is the status of women’s safety in BJP ruled states? Shah should first respond to the violence taking place in Manipur, where there has been continuous bloodshed for the last three years.

BJP rules in most of the border states of the country: Bratya Basu

According to PTI, West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu said, ‘BJP is in power at the Centre. It rules over 15 states and most of the border states of the country, from where infiltration is taking place. Amit Shah himself is the Union Home Minister, so what is he waiting for? Questioning the Central Government’s claims of infiltration, he asked why the Union Home Ministry failed to identify illegal immigrants and deport them from the country. Why has the BJP-controlled Election Commission failed to release the names of foreign nationals found in the voter list?
