Indian women’s cricket team created history and won the World Cup for the first time. Captured the World Cup by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the match played against South Africa on Sunday (2 November 2025) at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. On this occasion, reactions came not only from the country but also from the neighboring country Pakistan.

Former Pakistan captain Rameez Raza said in a video, ‘India again showed why they are such a big team because the combination is solid. His performance is solid. They remained relaxed. It was not that there was any desperate situation. This is a very big thing about India. They are enjoying each other’s company and the results are in front of you. This is a lesson for any youngster to not forget the reason why you play cricket. We all play cricket because we love it. We enjoy sports.

On the victory of the Indian women’s team, former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar said, ‘Many congratulations to India for the victory. Indian girls played well and truly deserved the victory. He gave people a chance to celebrate. Team India’s bowling and batting were also very good. With its help, he made sure that he came to the field with full attitude. Shoaib Akhtar further said that I felt good that Team India has won comprehensively. He has developed a lot of professionalism. He has invested a lot in himself.

Ended 52 years of drought

India created history by winning the title for the first time by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final of Women’s ICC ODI World Cup due to the all-round play of Shefali Verma and Deepti Sharma. Starting the innings, Shefali played an aggressive inning of 87 runs in 78 balls. After this, with her spin bowling, Sune Luus and Marijan Kapp showed the way to the pavilion to the experienced batsmen who scored 4 runs. Amidst the fall of wickets in the middle overs, Deepti, who contributed 58 runs in 58 balls, turned the match by taking five wickets, including South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt (101), who scored a century for the second consecutive match.

After being invited to bat first, India scored 298 runs for seven wickets and restricted South Africa to 246 runs, ending the 52-year drought in the history of this tournament. Wolvaardt stood firm from one end till the 41st over, but due to the continuous fall of wickets from the other end, the pressure on South Africa’s batsmen became dominant as the required run-rate increased.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur praised Smriti Mandhana (109 runs) and Pratika Raval (122 runs) after qualifying for the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup here on Thursday, saying the credit for the victory goes to the entire team.

After the century innings of Mandhana and Raval, with the help of tight bowling, India defeated New Zealand by 53 runs by Duckworth-Lewis method in a rain-affected match and became the fourth team to reach the semi-finals. Jemimah Rodrigues also played an unbeaten inning of 76 runs.

Harmanpreet said after the match, “It was not an easy victory.” The credit for the way we fought today goes to the entire team. We knew how important this match is, the whole team was excited and I am happy with the way we played today. ,

He said, “The way Smriti and Pratika took up the responsibility, credit goes to them. We got a very good start. When both of them scored 200 runs, then we decided whether we could field Jemimah Rodrigues at number three. The way he batted, everyone was expecting the same from him. ,

On the pressure of playing the World Cup on home soil, he said, “Whenever you play at home, everyone has a lot of expectations from you. The audience always encourages us. This is a moment to enjoy rather than put pressure on yourself. Really happy with the way we performed. ,

He said, “It was not easy after three defeats, but everyone in the team stood firm. The way we encouraged each other shows how positive we were. We knew that the last three matches were not good, but we were going to change that. Today was the right time and I’m so glad we were able to do this. ,

In the Women’s World Cup, Pakistan missed the opportunity to defeat England due to rain in the match played between Pakistan and England at R Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday. Pakistan captain Fatima Sana looked disappointed by this.

After the match, Fatima said, “This was the day when we could have beaten them. This pitch was good for the fast bowlers. I have seen many performances on this pitch, so I knew it would be helpful for the fast bowlers. I just tried to bowl in the right places and hit the stumps. But I would have been happier if we had won the match.”

Fatima praised her top order and said that Muniba and Omaima batted well. In the last two matches, we did well with the ball. We just need to improve our batting. Hopefully we will do that.

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt said, “Their team lost in the early stages. Pakistan bowled brilliantly. Fatima and Diana bowled brilliantly and made it difficult for us to stay in the match. There was a break due to rain. I thought Charlie and M batted well in the last six overs which allowed us to reach that score. We did not play well. We have to adjust quickly to the new grounds and conditions.”

Due to rain, the match was reduced to 31 overs instead of 50. England had scored 133 runs for 9 wickets in 31 overs. Pakistan was given a target of 113 under the Duckworth-Lewis rule. Pakistan had scored 34 runs in 6.4 overs without any loss, when the rain started again. After waiting for a long time, the umpires canceled the match, distributing 1-1 points between both the teams.

Pakistan had a chance to register its first win in the World Cup. The team has lost its three previous matches. After the cancellation of this match, Pakistan’s chances of reaching the semi-finals have become very less.

The ICC Women’s ODI World Cup match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand here on Tuesday had to be canceled due to incessant rain, due to which both the teams got one point each.

The host team put up a strong batting performance and scored a challenging score of 258 runs for six wickets, but just before New Zealand started chasing the target, it rained at the R Premadasa Stadium and the match could not be restarted.

After the match, Atapattu said, “We played good cricket after assessing the conditions. Unfortunately we could not complete the match. The next match is very important. We have to win three matches. Let’s hope it doesn’t rain in our match. ,

Sri Lanka remains at seventh position with two points from four matches, while New Zealand is at fifth position in the table with three points.

This result is also a big blow for New Zealand which has already suffered two defeats and now the race for the semi-finals has become difficult for them. New Zealand captain Sophie Devine said, “Unfortunately the weather did not allow us to play the match, we were excited to chase the target. Figures and numbers can be limited to this only. ,

This is the second match of the World Cup which was canceled due to rain. Earlier last week, Sri Lanka’s match against Australia was also canceled due to rain.

Earlier, after deciding to bat, Sri Lanka scored a challenging score of 258 runs for six wickets with the aggressive half-century of Nilakshika de Silva (55 not out) and the restrained half-century of captain Chamri Atapattu (53 runs).

Atapattu hit seven fours during his patiently played innings of 72 balls, while Nilakshika, on the other hand, scored the fastest half-century of the tournament, hitting seven fours and a six during her 28-ball innings.

Atapattu, along with young batsman Vishmi Gunaratne (42), laid a strong foundation by making a partnership of 101 runs. Hasini Perera also contributed 44 runs.

Atapattu made a brilliant start by hitting a brilliant cover drive on the very second ball of the innings and then showed his intentions by blasting the ball over extra cover.

Sri Lanka, looking for their first win of the tournament, decided to bat first and made a strategic change at the top of the order, sending 20-year-old Gunaratne in to open the innings with their captain, which paid off. Both took full advantage of the fielding restrictions in the powerplay and scored 52 runs without any loss in the first 10 overs.

The New Zealand players looked away from their fast fielding on the field and on several occasions missed the chances of dismissing and running out both the openers. His frustration increased further due to wrong fielding at times. But after the powerplay, he made a comeback working on his line.

Atapattu hit a four off Sophie Devine and then completed her 20th ODI half-century with two runs at midwicket, but Devine soon got the Sri Lankan captain caught out by Maddy Green at deep cover.

Gunaratne faced 83 balls and hit three fours. She tried to play openly but was bowled by Rosemary Mair.

Perera (44) and Harshitha Samarawickrama (26) managed the innings by making a partnership of 58 runs, but just as Sri Lanka looked to be in a position to score runs quickly, New Zealand dismissed Samarawickrama, Kavisha Dilhari (04) and Perera early, which again restricted the run rate.

Nilakshika played a brilliant inning which included three fours hit in the last over of Divine.

Australia defeated Pakistan by 107 runs in the ICC Women’s World Cup here on Wednesday, thanks to a brilliant century by experienced batsman Beth Mooney and her century partnership with lower-order batsman Elena King.

Left-arm spinner Nashra Sandhu (three wickets for 37 runs), off-spinner Ramin Shamim (two wickets for 29 runs) and fast bowler captain Fatima Sana (two wickets for 49 runs) had reduced Australia’s score to seven wickets for 76 runs, but Mooney (109), who came to bat at number 10, made a record 106-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Elena King (51 not out) and the team’s score was nine wickets. on Reached 221 runs.

This is the highest partnership for the ninth or lower wicket in women’s ODI matches. The previous best partnership was 76 runs between Australia’s Ashley Gardner and Kim Garth for the ninth wicket against South Africa in 2024. Mooney hit 11 fours in his innings of 114 balls, while Elena, facing 49 balls, hit three sixes and the same number of fours.

In response, Pakistan team collapsed for 114 runs in 36.3 overs in front of the stormy bowling of Garth (three wickets for 14 runs), Annabel Sutherland (two wickets for 15 runs) and Megan Shute (two wickets for 25 runs) and Australia registered its second win.

Sidra Amin scored the highest 35 runs for Pakistan. Apart from her, no other batsman could even touch the 20-run mark.

Australia had defeated New Zealand in its first match while its second match against Sri Lanka was washed out due to rain. This is Pakistan’s third consecutive defeat. The team had earlier faced defeat against Bangladesh and India.

While chasing the target, Pakistan had a very poor start and the team lost five wickets for 31 runs in the ninth over. Fast bowlers Kim Garth and Megan Shutt took three and two wickets respectively.

Pakistan team never appeared to be even close to the target. Garth gave the first blow to Pakistan by getting Sadaf Shams (05) caught by wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy in the third over, after which Pakistan’s batsman proved to be Aayiram-Gayaram.

Sidra Amin played for some time but Pakistan lost six wickets for 49 runs with the wicket of captain Fatima Sana (11) in the 13th over.

In the twenty-second over, Gardner broke Pakistan’s hopes of getting close to Australia’s score by getting Sidra Amin caught by Sutherland.

Earlier, after inviting Australia to bat first, Pakistan tightened the noose with the brilliant performance of the spinners led by Sandhu, but Mooney stood firm at one end and rescued the team with the help of his fifth ODI century.

Mooney came to the crease when the Australian team had lost two wickets for 30 runs. Amidst the fall of wickets, he held one end and played one of his most memorable innings.

Australia’s score after 25 overs was 83 runs for seven wickets and after this they added 138 runs after losing two wickets.

On a slow and spin-friendly pitch, Australia’s top-order batsmen lost their wickets by playing poor shots. Pakistan performed well in the field and took important catches with brilliant efforts.

Sadia Iqbal (1 wicket for 32 runs) gave the first blow to Australia by getting captain Alyssa Healy (20) caught by Diana Baig in the seventh over, while Fatima caught the second opener Phoebe Litchfield (10) on her own ball in the next over.

As the ball started turning, Australia’s problems increased. Sandhu took two big wickets of Elise Perry (05) and Annabel Sutherland (01), due to which Australia’s score reached 59 runs for four wickets by the 15th over.

Ashley Gardner (01), who scored a century against New Zealand, played a careless shot and played Ramin’s ball straight into the hands of Fatima standing at midwicket, due to which the team lost three wickets by adding only five runs.

Tahlia McGrath (05) and Georgia Wareham (00) were also out after adding just one run in the space of five balls, leaving Australia losing seven wickets for 76 runs.

Mooney then added 39 runs for the eighth wicket with Kim Garth (11) and took the team’s score beyond 100 runs. Diana Baig (1 wicket for 74 runs) broke this partnership by getting Garth caught by wicketkeeper Sidra Nawaz.

After this, Mooney got a good partner in the form of Elena and both of them changed the course of the match. Mooney completed his century in 110 balls with one run off Fatima’s ball in the 48th over.

In the last over of the innings, Elena completed her first half-century with two consecutive sixes on Fatima while Mooney, after hitting two consecutive fours, was caught by Sadaf on the last ball of the innings.

Sudhir
