The world’s prestigious QS World University Rankings 2027 has been released. This year too, America’s MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) has retained the position of the world’s number-1 university. The special thing is that MIT has remained at the top i.e. first position in this ranking for the 15th consecutive year.

Good news from India too

This year’s ranking has brought many good news for India also. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi remains the best ranked university in the country. This time IIT Delhi has emerged as the 118th best university in the world. This is equal to the best global ranking ever achieved by an Indian institute.

These universities of India benefit

A total of 52 universities of India have got a place in this ranking of QS. In the year 2017, where only 14 Indian institutions were included in this list. At the same time, now this number has increased to 52. The global presence of Indian universities has increased significantly in the last decade. With this, India has become the fifth most represented higher education system in the world.

Ranking of these universities improved

According to the ranking data, the ranking of 26 universities out of 52 institutions in India has improved. Nine universities have retained their positions, while 15 institutions have seen a decline in their rankings. Apart from this, two Indian universities have been included in this global list for the first time.

The specialty of this time’s ranking was that the better performance was not limited to just IIT institutes. Many other universities of the country have also made good improvements. Jamia Millia Islamia, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), BITS Pilani, VIT, Chandigarh University have achieved their best ranking till date. A total of 18 Indian universities have recorded their best performance this year, including 13 non-IIT institutions.

Which universities have seen the most improvement?

The institutions making the most improvements include VIT, BITS Pilani and Jamia Millia Islamia. VIT has achieved 597th rank by jumping 94 places. At the same time, BITS Pilani has climbed 93 places to reach 575th position. Jamia Millia Islamia has also achieved 686th rank with an increase of more than 75 ranks.

At what position did India come?

According to the report, India’s research work is also continuously getting stronger. India has now become the third largest research output producing country in the world. Apart from this, 11 Indian universities are included in the top 100 institutions of the world in terms of ‘Citations per Faculty’. At the same time, 6 Indian universities have been successful in making a place in the global top-100 in terms of ’employer reputation’ i.e. reputation among the companies providing jobs.

The QS World University Rankings 2027 evaluates more than 1500 universities from 106 countries and regions of the world. Overall, this year’s ranking has brought positive signs for India. The number, quality and global recognition of Indian universities is continuously increasing.
