The fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2026) is underway, in which Royal Challengers Bangalore has reached the playoffs. The team has secured the top position in the points table and secured the ticket for the final, which will be played in Vadodara on 5th February. The hopes of all four teams (DC, GG, UPZ and MI) are still alive for the 2 spots of the playoff. Understand the complete equation of how which team can confirm its place in the playoffs.

18 matches have been played in the Women’s Premier League 2026. There are still 2 matches left in the league stage. Today (January 30) there is a match between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians. The last match of the league will be played between Delhi Capitals and UP Warriors on Sunday.

Women’s Premier League 2026 format

Before the equation you have to understand the equation of WPL. A total of 5 teams are playing in this. First there is a double round robin, each team plays 8-8 matches. All teams play 2-2 matches against other teams. After this, the top team in the points table gets a direct ticket for the final, like in this edition RCB has reached the final. The second and third placed teams play eliminator matches and the fourth and fifth placed teams are eliminated from the tournament.

Mumbai Indians equation

If Mumbai Indians, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, beats Gujarat Giants today, the team will have 8 points equal to Gujarat, but Gujarat’s net run rate is minus (-0.271). In such a situation, Mumbai will win and qualify for the playoffs.

But if MI loses today then it needs UP Warriors to beat Delhi Capitals on 1st February. In this situation, Gujarat will qualify while other teams will have 6 points each. MI’s net run rate (+0.146) is better than other teams, so it will qualify.

Gujarat Giants equation

Gujarat Giants have 8 points and a net run rate of -0.271, which is less than the third and fourth placed teams but if the team wins today then it will qualify for the playoffs. In this situation, Gujarat will get 10 points, which other contending teams will not be able to achieve.

But if Gujarat Giants loses today then it would need UP Warriors to beat Delhi Capitals on Sunday. Because if Delhi wins then they too will have 8 points equal to Gujarat and on the basis of net run rate they are in a better position than Gujarat.

Delhi Capitals equation

Delhi Capitals is currently at fourth place in the points table, the team has 6 points and a net run rate of -0.164. Of course, Delhi is still at fourth position but the situation is better for it. Delhi will not be affected by the result of today’s match (MI vs GG), they just have to win their match. If Delhi beats UP then it will enter the eliminator otherwise it will be out of the tournament.

UP Warriors equation

The hope of reaching the playoffs of the Women’s Premier League 2026 is still alive for UP Warriors, but there is very little chance. If Mumbai Indians wins today then UP will be out of the tournament. UP should not only lose Mumbai but also lose by a huge margin. After this they will have to defeat Delhi Capitals by a big margin. However, UP reaching the playoffs would be nothing less than a miracle.

The fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2026) is ongoing, in which 15 matches have been played. Today there is a match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians. So far, only RCB under the captaincy of Smriti Mandhana has been able to secure its place in the playoffs, while the hopes of all the 4 teams for the other 2 spots are alive. Know now what each team has to do to qualify.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (Qualify)

RCB, captained by Smriti Mandhana, has won 5 out of the 6 matches played so far. The team won the first 5 matches, but lost to Delhi Capitals in the sixth. RCB has 10 points, net run rate (+1.236) is also much better. RCB now has two matches left. After today’s match against Mumbai Indians, the team’s last match is with UP on 29 January. RCB has confirmed its place in the playoffs.

There is every possibility that RCB will directly enter the finals by topping the points table, because only Delhi and Gujarat have a chance to get 10 points equal to them. Whereas even then the net run rate of RCB is much better.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals is at second place in the points table. The team has won 3 out of 6 matches and lost the same number. The team’s net run rate (-0.169) with 6 points is not very good. However, if Delhi wins its next two matches, then it will directly qualify for the playoffs without depending on any other team.

If Delhi loses both its matches then its chances of qualifying will be slim to none. Then they need UP and Mumbai to lose at least one match each, even then the net run rate will be a problem.

If Delhi wins one of the two matches then its path will become easier. If the team wins against Gujarat then all it needs is that it does not lose to UP by a huge margin. If the team loses from Gujarat and wins from UP then the net run rate will decide the fate of the team.

gujarat giants

Gujarat Giants is at third place in the points table. The team has won 3 matches and lost 3 like Delhi, but is slightly behind them in terms of net run rate (-0.341). If Gujarat loses both its matches then it will not be able to make it to the playoffs. Gujarat’s next two matches are with Delhi and Mumbai. By winning against Delhi, the team will come second in the points table and will also have a chance to reach 10 points. Gujarat has to win at least one match, but still the team may be in trouble on the basis of net run rate.

If Gujarat loses to Mumbai after defeating Delhi, then they will have to hope that the margin of victory against Delhi is so big that they get an advantage in net run-rate. Otherwise, Gujarat will have to hope that Mumbai loses to RCB or Delhi loses to UP.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians are currently at fourth position in the points table. The team has 4 points, and a net run rate of 0.046. The team’s match against RCB today is important, after this the last match is against Gujarat on 30 January. Of course, 2-time champion Mumbai is currently at fourth place in the points table, but their net run rate is more than three teams.

Mumbai will reach the playoffs by winning both its matches. Although even 6 points will be enough for Mumbai Indians, but then they will have to depend on the results of other teams.

If Gujarat loses to Delhi tomorrow (January 27), then even after defeating RCB, Mumbai will have to try to win against Gujarat. Suppose Mumbai beats RCB but loses to Gujarat, then they will have to hope that Delhi loses both its remaining matches and UP loses to RCB.

UP Warriors

UP Warriors have won 2 out of 6 matches and lost 4. The team has 4 points, and is at the bottom of the team table. The bad thing about this is that the net run rate of the team is very bad (-0.769). It is most difficult for UP Warriors, because even after winning both their matches, the team will have to depend on the results of other matches.

They need either Gujarat Giants to win both their matches or Royal Challengers Bangalore to defeat Mumbai Indians and also Gujarat to lose both their matches.
