The water level of the Yamuna river flowing above the danger mark for 5 days has now come down. The water level of Yamuna river in the capital Delhi decreased on Sunday night to the danger mark below 205.33 meters.

According to officials, this situation is news of relief as the water level was continuously above the danger mark for the last 5 days. During this time, flood -like situation was created in many allacks and thousands of people were displaced. Some people were also kept in shelters in view of security.

How much did the water level of Yamuna come down?

The water level of Yamuna was recorded at 205.33 meters at 9 pm on Sunday night, which is below the danger level. On 4 September, it reached this year’s highest level 207.48 meters. On September 2, the water level warning level crossed 204.50 meters and then also crossed the danger mark. As soon as the level of the river goes above 206 meters, the administration starts transporting people to safe places.

The lower areas around the river were badly affected due to the strong current. Water had penetrated inside people’s homes. For this reason, about 10,000 people have been displaced so far. Traffic on the old railway bridge has been stopped as it is the main center of monitoring. Tents have been installed for the displaced in Mayur Vihar and Delhi-Meerut Expressway areas.

Administration preparations

For the last few days, there is a continuous monitoring so that the situation remains under control. The old railway bridge is the main monitoring point of the river flow and possible floods. Relief camps and temporary houses have been set up for the affected families. Despite the fall in the water level, the administration is still cautious so that immediate action can be taken in the event of re -increase.

The danger is still not averted!

Delhiites have got partial relief from the decrease in the water level of Yamuna. Water has started decreasing gradually from many areas stranded in flood-like situation. Families who were sent to safe places are being provided temporary facilities. However, the danger cannot be completely denied, so all the arrangements for monitoring and security will continue at the moment.

Delhi is currently struggling with a serious flood crisis. The water level of the Yamuna river was recorded at 205.91 meters on 6 September 2025, which is 0.58 meters above the danger mark (205.33 m). This means that the water of Yamuna has crossed the danger limit and water has been filled in many low -lying areas. The report of the Central Water Commission states that Yamuna is still in the Severe Flood Situation.

The situation in many parts of the capital like Mayur Vihar, Kashmiri Gate, Akshardham, Uttam Nagar, Jahangirpuri and Mukherjee Nagar is worrying. People have been kept in temporary shelter by putting tents in many areas along the banks of Yamuna. More than 70 families are now living in tents on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Talking about rain, this year, Delhi has received 52 percent more rainfall than average, due to which the water level of Yamuna is continuously increasing. In such a situation, let us tell you what to do if you have flood water near your house too.

What to do if you have come near your house?

In many areas of Delhi, water has entered inside the houses. Especially in places which are in low -lying areas or near drains. If you also live in such an area, then some important steps and helpline numbers can be useful for you.

1. If you have started filling water in your house, then immediately shift with the family to a high and safe place.

2. If there is water in the house, then turn off the electrical equipment and cut the power supply from the main switch, so that there is no risk of current.

3. Keep your essential medicines, identity cards (Aadhaar, PAN etc.), mobile charger, power bank, some clothes and food and drink in advance in a bag.

4. Due to filling water, mosquitoes increase, due to which there is a risk of diseases. In such a situation, use mosquito nets and keep the body covered.

These are the helpline numbers to help in Delhi flood conditions

1. If you are trapped in a disaster like floods, or someone needs immediate relief and rescue, then call the Delhi government’s disaster management helpline 1077. This is a 24×7 helpline, that is, you can call it at any time. Whether someone needs a temporary shelter, needs food and water, or a rescue operation at some place, help can be found by calling this number.

2. If your area is flooded, sewer overflowing, or water drainage has stopped, then you can call the helpline of Delhi Jal Board 1916. This helpline is for problems like waterlogging, sewerage blockage, and tank overflow. After calling, you will get a reference number through SMS, so that you can track what action is being taken on your complaint. If you want, you can also download the mobile app of Delhi Jal Board, from where you can file a complaint and follow-up.

3. If there is waterlogging in your area, the road is broken, the drains are open, the garbage is not being cleaned, or the street light is not working, then you can register all these complaints by calling 311. The number 311 acts like a complaint portal, from where your complaint is delivered to NDMC, MCD, PWD, Jal Board or concerned department. Apart from this, some municipal corporations also have 311 apps, from which you can send a photo and complain.

Also read: Emergency is not done at home, no time to buy tickets; How can you travel to train?

The water level of Yamuna river in Delhi is continuously increasing. On Wednesday night, the water level on the old railway bridge was recorded at 205.35 meters, which is above 205.33 meters. Officials said that the water level has been increasing rapidly since morning and it remained above the warning level for the second consecutive day.

The Central Water Commission had issued a warning on Tuesday evening that the water level of Yamuna could cross the danger mark by Wednesday evening. The Commission had instructed the administration and flood control department to be vigilant, people settled on the river banks in advance and shift to safe places if needed.

People’s shifting will start on reaching 206 meters

According to the information, the water level of Yamuna was 204.61 meters at 9 am on Wednesday. As the day increased, the water level also climbed up and crossed the danger mark by night.

The flood control department says that if the water level reaches 206 meters, then people living on the banks of the river will start shifting to safe places.

Water released from Wazirabad and Hathinikund barrage

An official of the Central Flood Room said that the biggest reason for increasing the water is more water being released from Wazirabad and Hathinikund barrage.

Currently, about 41,206 cusecs of water is being released from Wazirabad and about 55,830 cusecs of water from Hathinikund. Usually, the water released from the barrage takes 48 to 50 hours to reach Delhi.

Officials say that less water is being released from the upper areas at present, but still the water level of Yamuna is continuously increasing. In such a situation, the next 24 to 48 hours are considered very important.

The old railway bridge is an important point to monitor this whole situation, because from here it is estimated to be correctly estimated by the flow of the river and the possibility of flood.

The water level of the Yamuna river on the old railway bridge in Delhi reached 204.65 meters at 1 pm, which is above 204.50 meters i.e. 204.50 meters. Officials gave this information on Friday. This bridge is an important inspection site to monitor the water level of the river and the dangers of potential floods. Officials said that the situation is being monitored and as part of the forecast to continue the rise in the water level, all the concerned agencies have been instructed to take precautionary measures to deal with the potential flood -like situation.

Heavy water being released from Wazirabad-Hathinikund barrage

“The main reason for the increase in water level is to release a huge amount of water every hour from Wazirabad and Hathinikund barrage,” said an official of the Central Flood Control Room. According to the flood control department, about 47,024 cusecs of water is being released every hour from Hathinikund barrage, while 35,130 cusecs of water is being released every hour from Wazirabad barrage. The water level of Yamuna on the old railway bridge at 9 am on 14 August was 204.43 meters. The water level is also increasing due to the release of small amount of water from the upper river.

How many levels are the areas vacated?

Reaching 204.50 meters level of water in Delhi is identified as a warning and the danger mark is 205.33 meters, while the area is evacuated as a precaution when the water level is recorded 206 meters. The water released from Hathinikund barrage usually takes 48 to 50 hours to reach Delhi.

Water level was also increased due to heavy rains

In the past, even after heavy rains, the water level of Yamuna river was recorded. The continuous heavy rains in the hilly areas are also considered a major reason behind this. Relief and rescue operations will be started in the affected areas if needed.
